What does a local tradesman do?
Tradesmen (and tradeswomen!) can help you tackle the tasks that need the expertise, tools, and knowledge that only a qualified local tradie can give. Whether you need a trade to help with home repairs or construction, you can find local tradesmen to help with tasks like:
Electrical & plumbing tradies
When you hire a tradie to work with electricity, gas, or water, they’ll need special qualifications, training, and equipment to keep you and your house safe from fires, flooding, and property damage. You’d need to hire an electrician to install your new light fittings or electrical equipment, like ovens. And you’d need a plumbing tradie to help with plumbing tasks, like fitting new taps and pipes, or gas plumbing tasks like installing or repairing heaters and stoves. Your tradie will start by asking questions about the issues you’re having, then they’ll do a physical inspection of the area to assess the work needed. They’ll use their specialist tools and equipment to repair, install, or replace parts to get everything working properly.
Carpentry & cabinet making tradies
Tradesmen are usually qualified professionals, so they’re ideally suited to tasks that need a higher skill level than a handyman. Carpenters and cabinet makers are in high demand for installing new cabinets, custom-making furniture and installing built-in robes and cupboards. They’ll measure your space to ensure the furniture and built-ins fit perfectly and match your existing decor. Then they’ll work with a range of equipment and tools (onsite or offsite) to cut and shape the wood, then assemble any parts to create your finished product.
Home exterior work tradies
Tradesmen can help provide a professional finish to your exterior building tasks. For example, installing or repairing balustrades. Your professional tradesmen will measure, fit and install glass, metal, or wood balustrades to make your balcony area or stairs safe while matching the design of your home. Once they’ve established a safe work zone, they’ll remove the old balustrades before installing the new parts. Another popular exterior task is installing or upgrading awnings. Your tradie can pull down old, broken, or faded awnings and help you choose a new awning to match your house and surroundings. Then they’ll carefully install the new awning so that it is safe and secure.
Concrete repairs & resurfacing tradies
When concrete is damaged, it can create trip hazards, and let in water, dirt and other pests, which can cause further damage. Concrete resurfacing can help repair damage and give your property an instant update with coloured concrete overlays and/or designs. Your tradie will first assess the damage, then repair or replace any broken areas. Then they may clean the existing area with high-pressure hoses or chemicals. Once the area is clean and prepared, they’ll mix up a thin, concrete-based surface compound that will cover the area.

Render and fix plaster from existing wall to new floor
$350
Brunswick VIC, Australia
12th Jan 2026
We’ve recently installed a new floor due to a sloping subfloor, which has left gaps between the floor and the walls (see photos). Looking for an experienced plasterer or renderer to: • Fill/render the gaps between the original brick wall and plaster board (the size of this gap varies between approx 5mm - 100mm. • Fill/render the gaps between new sub floor and wall • Ideally rendered (preferred over plasterboard) so it’s solid and suitable for fixing skirting boards onto • Leave a small expansion gap where appropriate for skirting installation • Ensure a neat, straight finish ready for skirting Details: • Residential job • Small to medium repair work • Must have own tools • Experience with rendering/plastering preferred Happy to discuss the best approach if you think plasterboard is more suitable, but preference is a solid rendered finish. It's a 3.6 x 3.6m room Photos attached for reference.
Outdoor Blind System Repair/conversion– inspection
$50
East Melbourne VIC, Australia
12th Jan 2026
Outdoor Blind System Replacement – Keeps Breaking in Wind (East Melbourne) Striped is what we have for current system we want same as the black system Looking for an experienced outdoor blind / awning installer to fix an ongoing issue at a residential property in East Melbourne. The current motorised drop-down blinds keep breaking and coming loose, even in light wind. They’re installed using a metal wire guide system, which clearly isn’t suitable. The motors aren’t the problem — the system itself is. A nearby property has a much stronger, wind-resistant blind system that works really well. We want to replace the existing setup with something similar — a proper track-guided or rigid system, not wire cables. ⸻ What We Need • Inspect the current blind setup • Explain why it keeps failing • Recommend a better, wind-safe system • Remove or modify the existing system • Supply and install a strong, long-lasting replacement • Reuse existing motors if possible (or advise if new ones are needed) ⸻ Fabric • Happy to reuse the existing fabric if it’s suitable (preferred option we like the colour) • Or replace it with a similar or better outdoor fabric that handles wind ⸻ Important This isn’t a handyman fix or quick repair. We’re after a proper long-term solution from someone who knows outdoor blinds. Photos will be provided showing: • The current broken system • Where it’s failing • The nearby system we want to match ⸻ Please Only Reply If • You have experience with outdoor blinds / awnings • You’ve installed wind-resistant systems before • You don’t use wire guide systems • You can show examples of similar work ⸻ When Replying, Please Include • Your experience • Photos or examples of similar jobs • What system you’d recommend • Availability to inspect in East Melbourne
Professional honest would highly recommend for anyone to use. He has a great work acumen and results and job.
