What does a local tradesman do?
Tradesmen (and tradeswomen!) can help you tackle the tasks that need the expertise, tools, and knowledge that only a qualified local tradie can give. Whether you need a trade to help with home repairs or construction, you can find local tradesmen to help with tasks like:
Electrical & plumbing tradies
When you hire a tradie to work with electricity, gas, or water, they’ll need special qualifications, training, and equipment to keep you and your house safe from fires, flooding, and property damage. You’d need to hire an electrician to install your new light fittings or electrical equipment, like ovens. And you’d need a plumbing tradie to help with plumbing tasks, like fitting new taps and pipes, or gas plumbing tasks like installing or repairing heaters and stoves. Your tradie will start by asking questions about the issues you’re having, then they’ll do a physical inspection of the area to assess the work needed. They’ll use their specialist tools and equipment to repair, install, or replace parts to get everything working properly.
Carpentry & cabinet making tradies
Tradesmen are usually qualified professionals, so they’re ideally suited to tasks that need a higher skill level than a handyman. Carpenters and cabinet makers are in high demand for installing new cabinets, custom-making furniture and installing built-in robes and cupboards. They’ll measure your space to ensure the furniture and built-ins fit perfectly and match your existing decor. Then they’ll work with a range of equipment and tools (onsite or offsite) to cut and shape the wood, then assemble any parts to create your finished product.
Home exterior work tradies
Tradesmen can help provide a professional finish to your exterior building tasks. For example, installing or repairing balustrades. Your professional tradesmen will measure, fit and install glass, metal, or wood balustrades to make your balcony area or stairs safe while matching the design of your home. Once they’ve established a safe work zone, they’ll remove the old balustrades before installing the new parts. Another popular exterior task is installing or upgrading awnings. Your tradie can pull down old, broken, or faded awnings and help you choose a new awning to match your house and surroundings. Then they’ll carefully install the new awning so that it is safe and secure.
Concrete repairs & resurfacing tradies
When concrete is damaged, it can create trip hazards, and let in water, dirt and other pests, which can cause further damage. Concrete resurfacing can help repair damage and give your property an instant update with coloured concrete overlays and/or designs. Your tradie will first assess the damage, then repair or replace any broken areas. Then they may clean the existing area with high-pressure hoses or chemicals. Once the area is clean and prepared, they’ll mix up a thin, concrete-based surface compound that will cover the area.

Tradie Needed - Rehang Heavy Sliding Door
$100
Prahran VIC 3181, Australia
12th Sep 2026
*open to offers* Urgent: Experienced Handyman Needed to Rehang Heavy Sliding Bedroom Door I have a large, heavy internal sliding door that was removed from its track and now needs to be put back into place. The door and existing sliding mechanism are all there and were working correctly before it was removed. The job is essentially to correctly re-engage/rehang the door onto the existing track and make sure it is sliding properly again. Friends have attempted to put it back but, due to the weight of the door and the mechanism, I need someone who has actual experience installing or repairing large sliding doors. The door is quite heavy, so you may need a second person to assist with lifting it into position. This is urgent and must be completed by Monday at 3pm at the latest. Please only make an offer if you have experience with sliding doors/door tracks and are confident you can complete the job.
The team did an amazing effort.

Earthing to 11 power points + 2 RCBOs
$2,000
Prahran VIC 3181, Australia
10th Sep 2026
A RentSafe compliance check found unearthed power points across the original cottage and a 1990s kitchen and bathroom addition. The report lists 6, but the electrician missed several points inside cupboards — the actual count is 11. The rear slab section is compliant, and the switchboard has a main earth electrode and a compliant RCD. Access notes: subfloor is not crawlable, so work needs to come from the roof space or wall cavities. Roof space is accessible via a manhole above the bathroom. Kitchen and bathroom are tiled. Scope: - Run earths to 11 power points - Install 2x 10A RCBOs for the lighting circuits - Electrical compliance certificate on completion Fixed price please. Licensed electricians only — happy to share the full inspection report.

I’m looking for a licensed electrician to install one new double power point on a plasterboard wall in my apartment. The job: * Install 1 x standard double GPO underneath the existing picture frame (see photo). * Ideally run the cable inside the plasterboard wall cavity from the existing power point. * I want no visible cabling or plaster chasing between the two points. * Only the necessary cut-out for the new GPO. * Please assess whether the existing GPO/circuit is suitable for the additional outlet. * Supply and install the GPO. * Test and leave the installation compliant and tidy. * Licensed electrician only – Victorian electrical regulations apply. Budget: $250–$300 Seeking a fixed price agreed before starting. Please quote including labour, materials and installation and confirm you are a licensed electrician in Victoria.
