What do handyman services in London include?

London Handymen can tackle a wide range of indoor and outdoor home DIY tasks. Here are some tasks you might ask a local handyman near you to pop round and help with:

General handyman services

Got a list as long as your arm of odd jobs that need a handyman to complete? Hire general labour handymen to get several things done at once. They can help with pulling up carpet, hanging doors, fixing broken appliances, garden work, and more.

Indoor installations and repairs

A local handyman can help install newly bought homewares or fix broken possessions (so you can hopefully save some money). For example, they can help with DIY blind installation and repairs, fitting and repairing the kitchen sink, fitting pet doors, hanging shower screens, and even wallpapering. They’ll get it done using their own specialist tools and will let you know if you need to provide or pay for any additional materials.

Outdoor installations and repairs

Your outdoor area and belongings have to deal with a lot. So help them withstand whatever nature (or your family) throws at them for longer by getting them professionally installed or repaired. Find a handyman who can help with garden shed installation, BBQ repair, fitting outdoor blinds, window repairs, fixing your mower, putting up your clothesline, and even repairing your kids’ trampoline.

Bricklaying and building work

You can hire a handyman near you with bricklaying and building experience to help build garden walls, repair loose brickwork, install MDF, or even construct a chicken coop. When getting quotes from tradesmen, mention if you’ve got the building materials already, or if you’d like them to supply the materials as part of the job.

Wall hanging

From pictures and TVs to bike racks and mirrors - if you need help with wall mounting, get a DIY handyman to fit your furnishings securely and make sure they’re level. Most handymen will bring their own tools, but you may need to supply extra materials such as screws, picture wire, or mounts for heavier electrical items like TVs and driers.

Furniture repair

When booking a handyman for furniture repair, you’ll need to be specific about the furniture that needs fixing. For example, handymen with carpentry experience may better if it’s your wooden coffee table, wardrobe, or sofa bed that need repairing. Meanwhile, a handyman with electrical experience may be right for any ceiling fan or digital fitness equipment fixes. That’ll ensure you get the best handyman near you for the job, plus the right tools to get it done.

Fit electric ceiling fan/light (3 WIRES)

£75

Sudbury, Greater London

18th Aug 2026

The fan has three wires and the wiring is not very clear in our house where the fan will be fitted. The wiring seems to be non standard so we need an electrician that can properly test the wiring so that the fan is installed correctly and safely. This is not just the usual two wires for a light fitting otherwise I would have done it myself. I just don't want to risk it being installed incorrectly! This is the fan: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CQJZ1RPJ?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

Dean did a great job! Fan fitted and working great despite our dodgy house wiring giving him a hard time.

Replace Leaking Kitchen Sink Waste Trap / P-Trap

£75

Bermondsey, Greater London, SE1

17th Aug 2026

I’m looking for a plumber to repair my kitchen sink waste pipe. The existing P-trap/U-bend has come apart and I haven’t been able to refit it correctly. I purchased what I thought was the correct replacement, but it appears the fittings/washers aren’t compatible with my existing pipework. Job required: * Assess the current waste pipe setup. * Supply any correct fittings/washers if needed. * Replace and fit a new P-trap/U-bend. * Ensure all joints are watertight and test for leaks before leaving. The sink is currently unusable as the waste pipe has come apart (see photos). Please let me know: * Your availability. * Whether you’ll bring any standard 40mm waste fittings that may be required. * Your total price including any small parts. Looking to have this fixed as soon as possible.

7th Aug 2026

I need someone to come and hang this glass chandelier. https://www.dunelm.com/product/dusk-9-light-adjustable-chandelier-1000250334#product_reviews. It will be hung from a ceiling rose as shown in the photo. There is already a wire and dimmer set up. Tooting, Greater London, SW17

7th Aug 2026

Work to commence around/before 23rd September please. -tenants available after 5pm weekdays if you want to look at the job. When writing your quote please itemise it under the following headings: -Access and protection Access equipment, dust sheeting and protection of the room and its contents (the property is occupied and furnished). -Stain-blocking and redecoration Preparation of the affected ceiling, application of a stain-blocking primer (please specify the product proposed) and finishing coats of emulsion. -Plasterboard replacement — provisional Should any sections of plasterboard be found saturated, blown or otherwise beyond drying out, please price for cutting out and replacing those sections, skimming and making good ready for decoration. -Caulking to wall / ceiling junction Raking out and applying flexible caulk to the cracks at the wall and ceiling junction, made good and overpainted. -Waste removal and making good Removal of all waste and leaving the room clean and usable. Handyperson for various maintenance tasks

£120

Central Parade, Greater London

2nd Aug 2026

I've built up a backlog of small household jobs and would like them done in one go by someone reliable and tidy. Roughly a full day's work. Just as importantly, I'm hoping this becomes a longer-term arrangement. I'd rather find one person I can call whenever something needs doing than start from scratch each time, so trust matters a lot to me. If this first day goes well, there will be steady work. The list covers four areas: Decorating and repairs: touching up paintwork on the staircase woodwork, including wood filler where needed. Filling, sanding and repainting a stained patch of ceiling. Re-caulking two bathrooms. Mounting and hanging: living room curtains, several mirrors and artwork around the house. Walls are a mix, so the right fixings for plasterboard and masonry will be needed. Smart home and security: fitting smart cameras and bulbs, removing a redundant outdoor Yale alarm box and replacing it with a SimpliSafe bell box and plaque, plus opening an outdoor key safe. Odds and ends: swapping a burr in a coffee grinder, repotting houseplants. You'll need your own tools, including a drill, ladder and basic decorating kit. I'll supply all materials unless you'd rather source anything yourself. Good communication and turning up when you say you will matter as much to me as the quality of the work. Happy to walk through everything at the start and then leave you to it. Splitting it across two shorter visits is fine too. In your offer, please tell me roughly how long you think the list will take, whether there's anything on it you'd rather not take on, and whether ongoing work appeals. Photos of the staircase, ceiling patch and alarm box available on request.
