Could not have expected a better and pain-free process! Ibrahim provided a 1st Class job by assessing the job, main issues, cutting down the job into different action plans, explaining along the way and always asking for my approval prior to the execution. He has a keen eye for details and always adds improvement ideas where he can. He will not just get the job done (quick fix) but he will try to make sure you are happy with what/how he does it.

Top Windows & Doors related questions

Finding door and window services can take as little as a few minutes or hours. Accept an offer as soon as you find an available handyman who suits your budget and specifications. If you can, try to post your request at least a day before your ideal schedule. Booking ahead can give you more time to get offers from Taskers near you.

In many states, handymen do not need to get a licence. But regulations may vary from location to location. If you’re not sure whether you need a licensed handyman, check with your local regulatory agency. Some services may require a contractor’s licence. Handyman tasks range from unskilled to highly skilled work.

That’s up to you! You don’t need to buy tools or materials for your windows and doors service. Instead, you can include the costs in your handyman fee, and then your handyman can source the materials for you. Your handyman may also have the tools on hand for the windows or doors service you need. If you do wish to buy your windows or doors, no problem! When your materials are ready, your handyman can install them for you.

Window replacement takes anywhere between 40 and 60 minutes. Meanwhile, door replacement takes around 2 to 6 hours. These working times may vary from Tasker to Tasker. An experienced handyman may be able to finish the task as quickly as possible. Labour time will depend on the complexity of a job.

Yes, if the jamb is in shape, a handyman can replace a door without replacing the frame. The new door will have to be the same size as the old one. There are two ways to install a new door. One way is to use a “prehung” door that’s already set into a finished frame. The second option is to set a new door into the hinges, using existing jambs.

The best time to get a window replacement is during the colder months. There are many benefits to getting a window replaced in “off” seasons like late fall or winter. These benefits include lower demand, discounts, and reduced wait times. Many homeowners schedule window replacements in the spring and summer. For this reason, more installers are available in colder months. Further, installers may reduce prices to get business after the busy season.

What does a windows and doors handyman do?

A handyman can do the installation, repair, replacement, and treatment tasks. They can help you with many types and parts of windows and doors. Whether you need a small repair for a door lock or a full window replacement, you’re in the right place! Let us know what you need, and we’ll connect you to a Tasker who can do the job.

Windows and doors services are useful for construction, home improvement, and damage repair. Request a handyman to do one or more windows and doors services on Airtasker. Describe everything you need on your listing, and we’ll connect you to available Taskers. Here’s a list of standard windows and doors services you can book on our platform.

Window and door installation

Window and door installation is one of many carpentry tasks you can find on Airtasker. Window and door fitters can help with construction or home improvement tasks. Installing a window usually involves setting up the casing, placing the window, and adding a window stop.

Your handyman may also add extension jambs and trim moulding. Meanwhile, door installation includes: assembling the door frame, pushing the door lining into the opening, inserting screws into the jambs, and hanging the door. Other than window and door installation, Taskers can also do fence installation tasks

Window and door repair

Handymen can repair doors and windows that are damaged or worn out. A repair is a smart option if you’re saving money for a replacement later on. Door and window repair includes repairing cracks (including windscreen repair) and fixing rotten wood frames.

Window and door pros can repair such damages with liquid epoxy and fillers. Then, they may sand and paint over the area. Door repairs include fixing door locks, patching up holes with foam insulation, and filling scratches. After a repair, a cleaning service can clear out any debris. Additionally, your cleaner can get your windows and doors looking good as new

Window and door replacement

If your window or door is beyond repair, or if you’re doing an upgrade, replacement may be your ideal option. Window and door replacement involves the same steps as for installation. But, naturally, replacement includes extra steps in removing old windows, doors, or frames. Replacing a window or door requires carpentry skill and specific tools.

Window and door treatments

Window and door treatments enhance aesthetics with a cover or modification. “Hard treatments” include installing shutters, blinds, or window shades. Meanwhile, “soft treatments” include putting up curtains and drapery.

A handyman may also add shades or blinds to sliding-glass doors. Curtains and blinds services on Airtasker are an affordable way to add finishing touches to your windows and doors. Taskers may also help you with frosted glass or stained glass treatments. Availability varies from Tasker to Tasker.

Replace plywood window recess cover with GRP. Re-plaster, Paint wall

£300

Hampstead, Greater London, NW3

1st Jun 2024

Main Job Brief - Remove existing plywood boards that have been affixed and plastered over a window recess to cover a blind - Drill new holes to fit blinds one cm back - Install GRP/fibreglass cover (supplied by me) instead - drilling and screwing/bolting into window recess - Plaster over the covers to uniform finish and level with wall - Paint whole wall of bay windows - Paint a second wall Problem: - I previously installed plywood boards inside the front of window recesses which contained roller blinds, the blinds were affixed with a number of steel L brackets. (Photo 1, 2) - The longest section (around 260cm) has warped, cracking the plaster. (Photo 3, 4) - The board now pushes against the blind Solution: - Install a fibreglass/GRP profile instead of the plywood. The profile will be L-shaped so can be screwed into the top of the window recess without using brackets - It must be securely fastened across multiple points, and plastered over with a good plaster/wood filler to prevent cracking - The ends may be fastened with L-shaped brackets to the side wall if required - The profile should be sanded/prepared and painted to a uniform finish along with the rest of the wall - The blind should also be moved back around 1cm, to further minimise the chance it brushes against the GRP cover - There is only 9.5cm of space from the window to the end of the recess so space is tight Second Task - I'd like to run thin cables through the 2 wall corner sections connecting between the bay windows to power/charge the motorised blinds - This should be done without cracking the 2 shorter plywood blind covers that are in fairly good shape - It could be done by carefully running a channel and covering over or perhaps by drilling from both sides of each corner through the brick Third Task A second wall should be repainted in the same colour as the other wall. It's already well painted except for a few very small patches that have been incorrectly touched up with paint

Polite, communicative, timely, real regard for detail. Highly recommended
