What do handyman services in London include?

London Handymen can tackle a wide range of indoor and outdoor home DIY tasks. Here are some tasks you might ask a local handyman near you to pop round and help with:

General handyman services

Got a list as long as your arm of odd jobs that need a handyman to complete? Hire general labour handymen to get several things done at once. They can help with pulling up carpet, hanging doors, fixing broken appliances, garden work, and more.

Indoor installations and repairs

A local handyman can help install newly bought homewares or fix broken possessions (so you can hopefully save some money). For example, they can help with DIY blind installation and repairs, fitting and repairing the kitchen sink, fitting pet doors, hanging shower screens, and even wallpapering. They’ll get it done using their own specialist tools and will let you know if you need to provide or pay for any additional materials.

Outdoor installations and repairs

Your outdoor area and belongings have to deal with a lot. So help them withstand whatever nature (or your family) throws at them for longer by getting them professionally installed or repaired. Find a handyman who can help with garden shed installation, BBQ repair, fitting outdoor blinds, window repairs, fixing your mower, putting up your clothesline, and even repairing your kids’ trampoline.

Bricklaying and building work

You can hire a handyman near you with bricklaying and building experience to help build garden walls, repair loose brickwork, install MDF, or even construct a chicken coop. When getting quotes from tradesmen, mention if you’ve got the building materials already, or if you’d like them to supply the materials as part of the job.

Wall hanging

From pictures and TVs to bike racks and mirrors - if you need help with wall mounting, get a DIY handyman to fit your furnishings securely and make sure they’re level. Most handymen will bring their own tools, but you may need to supply extra materials such as screws, picture wire, or mounts for heavier electrical items like TVs and driers.

Furniture repair

When booking a handyman for furniture repair, you’ll need to be specific about the furniture that needs fixing. For example, handymen with carpentry experience may better if it’s your wooden coffee table, wardrobe, or sofa bed that need repairing. Meanwhile, a handyman with electrical experience may be right for any ceiling fan or digital fitness equipment fixes. That’ll ensure you get the best handyman near you for the job, plus the right tools to get it done.

Install one Venetian blind - outside/face fix

£30

Bayswater, Greater London, W2

12th Aug 2026

Hello would love for someone to help put up our new blinds as I have no idea. The blind is slightly wider than the window recess, so it will need to be face-fixed to the wall above the window rather than fitted inside the recess. The blind comes with universal brackets suitable for face fixing and the manufacturer’s fittings. The job will involve: * Removing two old blind brackets from inside the window recess * Measuring and centring the new blind above the window * Drilling and securely fixing the new brackets to the wall * Installing and levelling the blind * Fitting the supplied child-safety cord fitting Please bring your own drill / other relevant tools. Hope this makes sense because it doesn’t to me! Much appreciated!

Bob did a great job at putting up our blinds, super friendly and efficient. Would recommend!

Hang chandelier

£200

West Ealing, Greater London, W13

7th Aug 2026

I need someone to come and hang this glass chandelier. https://www.dunelm.com/product/dusk-9-light-adjustable-chandelier-1000250334#product_reviews. It will be hung from a ceiling rose as shown in the photo. There is already a wire and dimmer set up. The chandelier is quite heavy so I imagine we will need to lift floorboards upstairs and either fix it to a joist or install a structural timber support. The ceiling is modern plasterboard. I can be flexible on fitting times as work from home.

Fixing a ceiling after ingress of water from Leak

£50

Tooting, Greater London, SW17

7th Aug 2026

Work to commence around/before 23rd September please. -tenants available after 5pm weekdays if you want to look at the job. During the visit, I would be grateful if you could: -Measure and state the affected area in square metres, and what proportion of the total ceiling this represents. -Check the ceiling for sagging, softness, delamination of the paper facing, crumbling edges, or nail and screw pops. -Where reasonable access allows, inspect the reverse side of the plasterboard and the void above it. I do not know what access exists; if reaching it would require lifting flooring or forming an opening, please tell me what is involved and price it separately rather than proceeding. -Give your written opinion on whether the plasterboard is sound, or whether any part of it requires cutting out and replacing. When writing your quote please itemise it under the following headings: -Access and protection Access equipment, dust sheeting and protection of the room and its contents (the property is occupied and furnished). -Stain-blocking and redecoration Preparation of the affected ceiling, application of a stain-blocking primer (please specify the product proposed) and finishing coats of emulsion. -Plasterboard replacement — provisional Should any sections of plasterboard be found saturated, blown or otherwise beyond drying out, please price for cutting out and replacing those sections, skimming and making good ready for decoration. -Caulking to wall / ceiling junction Raking out and applying flexible caulk to the cracks at the wall and ceiling junction, made good and overpainted. -Waste removal and making good Removal of all waste and leaving the room clean and usable. This will be submitted to the insurer who will make the decision for me to proceed. Thank you for your time.

Hang an internal door

£150

Plaistow, Greater London, E13

4th Aug 2026

A small job for an experienced carpenter/joiner to hang a new internal door. The door has already been planed to size and fits the opening, so won’t need any resizing or trimming. I just need someone to: * Fit and recess the hinges into the door and frame. * Hang the door so it is straight, flush and operates smoothly with even gaps. * Fit a pull handle to the door (pull handle only – no latch or lock mechanism). The frame is already in place, and the door is ready to be hung. I’ve attached a photo of the opening. Tools: * I have tools available, including a planer and chisels. * Ideally, you’ll bring your own professional tools. Parking: * I’ll cover the cost of parking. Looking for: * Someone with experience hanging internal doors. * Attention to detail – I’d like the door aligned properly with clean hinge recesses and a good finish. Please let me know your experience and, if possible, include photos of similar carpentry work you’ve completed.

Josh is a very courteous, reliable and competent carpenter. Took a challenging door job and made it work. Left everything clean and tidy and I would definitely recommend him as a first class Tasker (professional)! Will be asking him back for more jobs for sure.

Remove LED chandelier and refit original light – Tuesday 4 August

£75

Grove Park, Greater London

2nd Aug 2026

Must be completed on Tuesday 4 August 2026. Please only make an offer if you are definitely available that day. We are moving home and need the pictured multi-ring LED chandelier safely disconnected and removed from the ceiling. The landlord’s original light fitting must then be reinstalled, tested and left fully working. The job includes: * safely isolating the electrical supply; * carefully disconnecting and taking down the chandelier; * retaining all chandelier brackets, screws and fittings for us; * installing the landlord’s original ceiling light; * testing the replacement light before leaving. We will pack and transport the chandelier ourselves. No installation at our new property is required. Please bring your own suitable ladder and all necessary tools. The chandelier has several suspended rings and fine cables, so experience removing decorative LED fittings is preferred. When making an offer, please confirm: * your availability on Tuesday 4 August; * your electrical or lighting-installation experience; * that your price includes the complete job described above

James did a great job. His communication was excellent, he was polite and professional, and he completed the work to a very good standard. I would happily recommend him.

Handyperson for various maintenance tasks

£120

Central Parade, Greater London

2nd Aug 2026

I've built up a backlog of small household jobs and would like them done in one go by someone reliable and tidy. Roughly a full day's work. Just as importantly, I'm hoping this becomes a longer-term arrangement. I'd rather find one person I can call whenever something needs doing than start from scratch each time, so trust matters a lot to me. If this first day goes well, there will be steady work. The list covers four areas: Decorating and repairs: touching up paintwork on the staircase woodwork, including wood filler where needed. Filling, sanding and repainting a stained patch of ceiling. Re-caulking two bathrooms. Mounting and hanging: living room curtains, several mirrors and artwork around the house. Walls are a mix, so the right fixings for plasterboard and masonry will be needed. Smart home and security: fitting smart cameras and bulbs, removing a redundant outdoor Yale alarm box and replacing it with a SimpliSafe bell box and plaque, plus opening an outdoor key safe. Odds and ends: swapping a burr in a coffee grinder, repotting houseplants. You'll need your own tools, including a drill, ladder and basic decorating kit. I'll supply all materials unless you'd rather source anything yourself. Good communication and turning up when you say you will matter as much to me as the quality of the work. Happy to walk through everything at the start and then leave you to it. Splitting it across two shorter visits is fine too. In your offer, please tell me roughly how long you think the list will take, whether there's anything on it you'd rather not take on, and whether ongoing work appeals. Photos of the staircase, ceiling patch and alarm box available on request.
