What does a local tradesman do?

Tradesmen (and tradeswomen!) can help you tackle the tasks that need the expertise, tools, and knowledge that only a qualified local tradie can give. Whether you need a trade to help with home repairs or construction, you can find local tradesmen to help with tasks like:

Electrical & plumbing tradies

When you hire a tradie to work with electricity, gas, or water, they’ll need special qualifications, training, and equipment to keep you and your house safe from fires, flooding, and property damage. You’d need to hire an electrician to install your new light fittings or electrical equipment, like ovens. And you’d need a plumbing tradie to help with plumbing tasks, like fitting new taps and pipes, or gas plumbing tasks like installing or repairing heaters and stoves. Your tradie will start by asking questions about the issues you’re having, then they’ll do a physical inspection of the area to assess the work needed. They’ll use their specialist tools and equipment to repair, install, or replace parts to get everything working properly.

Carpentry & cabinet making tradies

Tradesmen are usually qualified professionals, so they’re ideally suited to tasks that need a higher skill level than a handyman. Carpenters and cabinet makers are in high demand for installing new cabinets, custom-making furniture and installing built-in robes and cupboards. They’ll measure your space to ensure the furniture and built-ins fit perfectly and match your existing decor. Then they’ll work with a range of equipment and tools (onsite or offsite) to cut and shape the wood, then assemble any parts to create your finished product.

Home exterior work tradies

Tradesmen can help provide a professional finish to your exterior building tasks. For example, installing or repairing balustrades. Your professional tradesmen will measure, fit and install glass, metal, or wood balustrades to make your balcony area or stairs safe while matching the design of your home. Once they’ve established a safe work zone, they’ll remove the old balustrades before installing the new parts. Another popular exterior task is installing or upgrading awnings. Your tradie can pull down old, broken, or faded awnings and help you choose a new awning to match your house and surroundings. Then they’ll carefully install the new awning so that it is safe and secure.

Concrete repairs & resurfacing tradies

When concrete is damaged, it can create trip hazards, and let in water, dirt and other pests, which can cause further damage. Concrete resurfacing can help repair damage and give your property an instant update with coloured concrete overlays and/or designs. Your tradie will first assess the damage, then repair or replace any broken areas. Then they may clean the existing area with high-pressure hoses or chemicals. Once the area is clean and prepared, they’ll mix up a thin, concrete-based surface compound that will cover the area.

And then painted as below. (2) There are a few small patches around the areas of the holes that have glue on the wall and/or paint ripped off from previous ducting that needs sanding back/off, then painted. (3) I will provide ceiling and wall paints for you to paint the affected areas once patched. See photos. The ceiling at the highest point where most of the holes are is 3.6m. One of the areas is under a stairwell, which might be reached by a stair-compatible ladder or possibly from the stairs at the same level on the other side. See Photo of stairwell. This is a residential property, there are no access issues, it is my home. Parking: There is no dedicated parking, I can provide all-day street parking permits. Need a licensed electrician to install a weatherproof outdoor power point on my apartment balcony. The new outlet would be installed underneath the existing AC unit area. Wall mount 55” LG OLED TV in (likely plasterboard/drywall)

$150

Darlinghurst NSW, Australia

23rd Apr 2026

Looking for an experienced TV installer to wall mount my 55” LG OLED TV in my apartment. TV model: LG OLED55B5PSA Important details: TV is to be mounted in a wall nook that is approx. 158cm wide I would like the TV centred in the nook Preferred height is around 95–100cm from floor to bottom of TV I’d prefer a slim tilting mount I do not need cables concealed in the wall Important note: The wall sounds hollow when knocked on, so I think it may be plasterboard/drywall rather than concrete. I have permission from my real estate agent to mount the TV, but I want it done properly and safely. I have not bought the mount yet because I want advice on the correct bracket/fixings for this wall type. Please quote only if you have experience mounting TVs on plasterboard/drywall walls and can either: advise exactly what mount I should buy, or supply the correct mount/fixings as part of the job I’ll attach photos of the wall/nook and surrounding area.

Lucas was great! Here early and super efficient. TV looks great :)

Repair ceiling drywall and reinstall fallen roller blind

$100

Rosebery, New South Wales

27th Mar 2026

Budget: $100 - $450 (Open to quotes) Description: Hi, I need a handyman Pet er to repair a roller blind that was pulled out of the ceiling. Maybe by a cat. The Issue: The cat pulled the blind, causing the bracket screws to rip through the drywall. The original mounting holes are now quite large and crumbled, so they will need heavy-duty anchors (like SnapToggles or Toggle Bolts) to be reinstalled securely. Task includes: Removing the remaining blind/bracket from the ceiling. Patching/filling the damaged drywall area. Re-mounting the bracket using heavy-duty anchors that can handle downward weight. Popping the roller blind back into place. Requirements: Please bring your own ladder and heavy-duty drywall anchors (SnapToggles preferred). I have photos of the damage attached. Located in Rosebery. Looking to get this fixed / This Week. Happy to accept low offer will top up with csah or paayID if needed. You are allowed to offer $10

Great job. Explain things in detail
