What does a local tradesman do?
Tradesmen (and tradeswomen!) can help you tackle the tasks that need the expertise, tools, and knowledge that only a qualified local tradie can give. Whether you need a trade to help with home repairs or construction, you can find local tradesmen to help with tasks like:
Electrical & plumbing tradies
When you hire a tradie to work with electricity, gas, or water, they’ll need special qualifications, training, and equipment to keep you and your house safe from fires, flooding, and property damage. You’d need to hire an electrician to install your new light fittings or electrical equipment, like ovens. And you’d need a plumbing tradie to help with plumbing tasks, like fitting new taps and pipes, or gas plumbing tasks like installing or repairing heaters and stoves. Your tradie will start by asking questions about the issues you’re having, then they’ll do a physical inspection of the area to assess the work needed. They’ll use their specialist tools and equipment to repair, install, or replace parts to get everything working properly.
Carpentry & cabinet making tradies
Tradesmen are usually qualified professionals, so they’re ideally suited to tasks that need a higher skill level than a handyman. Carpenters and cabinet makers are in high demand for installing new cabinets, custom-making furniture and installing built-in robes and cupboards. They’ll measure your space to ensure the furniture and built-ins fit perfectly and match your existing decor. Then they’ll work with a range of equipment and tools (onsite or offsite) to cut and shape the wood, then assemble any parts to create your finished product.
Home exterior work tradies
Tradesmen can help provide a professional finish to your exterior building tasks. For example, installing or repairing balustrades. Your professional tradesmen will measure, fit and install glass, metal, or wood balustrades to make your balcony area or stairs safe while matching the design of your home. Once they’ve established a safe work zone, they’ll remove the old balustrades before installing the new parts. Another popular exterior task is installing or upgrading awnings. Your tradie can pull down old, broken, or faded awnings and help you choose a new awning to match your house and surroundings. Then they’ll carefully install the new awning so that it is safe and secure.
Concrete repairs & resurfacing tradies
When concrete is damaged, it can create trip hazards, and let in water, dirt and other pests, which can cause further damage. Concrete resurfacing can help repair damage and give your property an instant update with coloured concrete overlays and/or designs. Your tradie will first assess the damage, then repair or replace any broken areas. Then they may clean the existing area with high-pressure hoses or chemicals. Once the area is clean and prepared, they’ll mix up a thin, concrete-based surface compound that will cover the area.

Solid Plastering & White Setting - Kitchen & Media Wall
$800
Alexandria NSW 2015, Australia
22nd Jun 2026
Seeking an experienced professional solid plasterer or renderer to repair, hard-plaster, and finish multiple wall sections in our kitchen and media areas to make them completely seamless and ready for paint. Scope of Work: 1. Kitchen Overhead Cavities: Two recessed white rectangular sections (where upper cabinets were previously located) need to be completely made good. Prep: There are existing anchor screws and bolts remaining in these white zones. These must be removed, and the holes filled/patched. Finish: The entire white area, as well as the dark grey cement border surrounding it, needs to be professionally hard-plastered / white-set and sanded back to a perfectly flush, mirror-smooth surface. Care: The existing rangehood housing, the stainless steel splashback, and the loose LED strip lighting channels below must be protected and kept completely clean. 2. Media/TV Wall Run: Grey Area (Cement): Needs a thin skim coat / white setting applied and sanded smooth to eliminate the rough texture. White Area (Cement & Brick): The lower recessed brick/cement run needs plastering, white setting, and flushing to align seamlessly with the upper section. Care: There are exposed power points, ethernet cables, and open wall cutouts here. You must work carefully around these electrical components (the centre power port you see will be filled) to ensure they remain functional and undamaged. Requirements: Must have proper experience in solid plastering, rendering, or hard-set/white-setting (this is a solid wall finish, not standard drywall patching). Please bring all your own trade tools, premium finishing plaster/compounds, drop sheets, and sanding equipment. The final result across all surfaces must be completely flat, smooth, and ready for paint.

Roof Leak Detection & Ceiling Water Damage Repair
$500
Alexandria NSW 2015, Australia
3rd Jun 2026
Looking for an experienced roofer, builder, or qualified handyman to find a roof leak and repair the resulting ceiling damage. The leak only acts up when it pisses down with rain, and it has started to discolour and stain the plasterboard ceiling below. The job involves inspecting the Colorbond roof to find exactly where the water is getting in by checking sheets, flashing or screws. From there, I need the leak repaired permanently to stop further water ingress, and the water-damaged plasterboard ceiling patched and prepped ready for painting. I have ceiling paint that matches the current ceiling white paint shade. I am looking for someone who can ideally tackle both sides of this, or accurately diagnose the roof issue so we can plan the next steps. In your offer, please let me know your experience with Colorbond roof leaks, whether your quote includes the plaster patching, and when you are available to take a look, I am pretty flexible. Budget is indicative for inspection, diagnosis, and repair. Happy to discuss a revised quote once the source of the leak is found.

Gyprocker for patching holes (see photos)
$400
Potts Point NSW, Australia

(1) I have some ceiling holes made by an electrician that need to be patched (I have the pieces of gyprock), and a couple of smaller 10mm drill areas (2 through plaster and 2 through brick) than need to be filled with an appropriate filler. And then painted as below. (2) There are a few small patches around the areas of the holes that have glue on the wall and/or paint ripped off from previous ducting that needs sanding back/off, then painted. (3) I will provide ceiling and wall paints for you to paint the affected areas once patched. See photos. The ceiling at the highest point where most of the holes are is 3.6m. One of the areas is under a stairwell, which might be reached by a stair-compatible ladder or possibly from the stairs at the same level on the other side. See Photo of stairwell. This is a residential property, there are no access issues, it is my home. Parking: There is no dedicated parking, I can provide all-day street parking permits. Outdoor Power Point
$300
Rosebery NSW, Australia
11th May 2026
Need a licensed electrician to install a weatherproof outdoor power point on my apartment balcony. The new outlet would be installed underneath the existing AC unit area. There is already an internal powerpoint located directly on the inside wall, which is connected to the existing AC circuit, so I believe the new outlet can likely be run from there. Job should include: Supply and installation of outdoor weatherproof powerpoint Safe connection to existing circuit Testing and compliance The job appears relatively straightforward with easy access and should take approximately 1–2 hours. Please only respond if you are a licensed electrician and can provide licence details if required.
