I’m looking to have the back wall behind my log burner tiled, along with tiling over the existing slate hearth. The slate hearth cannot be removed, so all work will need to be done in situ. The tiles are square, approximately 10x10, and we want them laid in a chequered pattern. The slate hearth is slightly raised. We want the tiling to continue around the lip of the hearth so that the vertical edge and the floor section meet cleanly. This will require the tiles on the lip to be mitred into the tiles on the hearth floor for a neat finish. The fire surround has an opening that matches the log burner space exactly. We do not want the surround tiled, so a suitable trim will be needed to create a clean edge where the tiled area meets the surround. The log burner will be removed before work begins, so full access to the back wall and hearth will be available. I would like to remove the wooden fireplace surround from the chimney breast with as minimal damage to the wall underneath as possible. The gas fire itself will stay in place, it’s just the surround I need removing.

Hang new mirror in living room above chimney breast area of the fireplace. Requires drilling and precise hanging. Relocate the old mirror to hallway. Requires new back fittings so it can be hung portrait instead of landscape. Both mirrors need to be slightly higher than present so I can see myself in it.

We recently removed stone cladding from a chimney breast and discovered an original fireplace behind it (see photos). We would like to restore the fireplace opening as an attractive feature and make good the exposed brickwork and surrounding area.
