Top Fireplace Installation related questions
Fireplace installation costs  range from £64 - £242 when you book the service through Airtasker. Fireplace repairs will sometimes cost less than this, while major installations will often cost more. Specify the details of your task to get the best quotes when hiring a Tasker for fireplace installation in your area.
Yes. If you’re installing a wood burning fireplace or wood heater, you’ll need a chimney installed as part of the service. Make sure you confirm this with your technician when you book on Airtasker.
Yes. Gas and electric fireplaces don’t require chimneys as they don’t produce smoke. Different types of modern fireplaces are also available, such as ventless gas fireplaces and ethanol fireplaces. Choose the fireplace design that suits your home and have a Tasker install it for you.
For wood-burning fireplaces, requirements can vary, but any installation must comply with local building regulations to ensure it is safe. However, work on gas fireplaces must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer by law. Hiring a qualified professional helps to ensure quality workmanship and a safe installation.
Fireplace installations can take as little as 4 hours for an electric fireplace and up to one week for a wood fireplace installation. Complex masonry work may require more time and effort to get your fireplace installed.
This depends on what your priorities are, whether aesthetics, heat, efficiency, or convenience. Wood heaters offer great heating efficiency compared to the alternatives, while a wood fireplace is a classic look, and gas/electric are generally low-maintenance options.

What does fireplace installation include?
Fireplace installations include help with any of the steps involved in setting up your fireplace, from choosing your heater to installing your chimney. And fireplace repairs include all sorts of tasks, like fixing a tile, unblocking your chimney, and repairing a door hinge. The exact inclusions will depend on the type of fireplace or heater you choose, but the most common ones are:
Wood fireplace installation
Traditional fireplaces are built into your home’s structure, so the process of installing or repairing a wood fireplace or chimney is often quite involved. Your handyman will build around your fireplace unit, using timber, plasterboard, stone, bricks, and other materials to form the structure. They’ll set up a suitable chimney system based on the airflow and thermal dynamics in your building. They’ll tightly seal this to prevent smoke from coming back inside your home.
Wood heater installation
Your installer will start by positioning your hearth (usually made from brick, ceramic tile, or concrete) to provide a firm, safe base for your wood heater. Next, they’ll install your unit, connecting the flues (inside and outside, on your roof) to carry the smoke outside of your home.
Gas fireplace installation
Once you’ve chosen the best gas fireplace for your space (whether against a wall, built-in, freestanding, or inside your existing fireplace structure), your installer will help organise gas. If you don’t already have gas service to your place, they’ll arrange the connection or gas bottle delivery. Next, your fireplace installer will assemble all the parts, including the unit and flues. They’ll cut holes to place the flues through the ceiling and roof, ensuring all gaps are tightly sealed to prevent leaks and damage. Then they’ll connect up your gas and test your newly installed fireplace.
Electric fireplace installation
Your electric fireplace installer will start by plugging in and testing the fireplace to make sure it works. Then they’ll cut a wall opening to fit your fireplace. Next, they’ll connect up the power supply (you may need a licensed electrician for this step). Then it’s time to lift the fireplace unit into the wall opening before securing it into the wall studs with screws. Finally, they’ll install any decorations (like logs) that come with your fireplace and install the front glass panel.Â

Tiling back and hearth of fireplace
£325
Canley, West Midlands
9th Jul 2026
I’m looking to have the back wall behind my log burner tiled, along with tiling over the existing slate hearth. The slate hearth cannot be removed, so all work will need to be done in situ. The tiles are square, approximately 10x10, and we want them laid in a chequered pattern. The slate hearth is slightly raised. We want the tiling to continue around the lip of the hearth so that the vertical edge and the floor section meet cleanly. This will require the tiles on the lip to be mitred into the tiles on the hearth floor for a neat finish. The fire surround has an opening that matches the log burner space exactly. We do not want the surround tiled, so a suitable trim will be needed to create a clean edge where the tiled area meets the surround. The log burner will be removed before work begins, so full access to the back wall and hearth will be available. We would also like advice on suitable adhesive (including for the slate), grout and trim options for heat‑exposed areas,

I’m looking for an experienced carpenter/joiner or media wall specialist to build a high-quality, modern media wall in my living room. Location: Beckenham, Kent Scope of work * Build a bespoke chimney breast/media wall against an existing load-bearing wall. * Overall wall width: 2,740 mm (with a chimney breast to be installed at either 1,8m or 2,3m). * Install my supplied electric fireplace. * Prepare for TV installation. * Conceal all cables, including power and TV connections. * Install IKEA LED strip lighting * Plaster and prepare the media wall ready for painting. Restore Exposed Brick Fireplace Opening
£500
St Margarets, Greater London
11th Jun 2026
We recently removed stone cladding from a chimney breast and discovered an original fireplace behind it (see photos). We would like to restore the fireplace opening as an attractive feature and make good the exposed brickwork and surrounding area. Potential scope includes: * Inspecting the exposed fireplace and chimney breast * Assessing whether any of the exposed timber framing is structural/load-bearing * Advising whether any timber can be safely removed or must remain in place * Minor brickwork repairs and repointing where required * Cleaning and improving the appearance of the exposed brickwork * Making good the fireplace opening and surrounding chimney breast * Recommending the best cosmetic finish Important: Some vertical timber members continue into the ceiling, and we are concerned they may be structural. Before any work is undertaken, we need an experienced professional to assess whether these timbers are load-bearing and advise on what can safely be removed or altered. We are not currently looking to reinstate the fireplace as a working fireplace. The objective is a safe and attractive cosmetic restoration. Please only apply if you have experience with: * Fireplace restoration * Masonry / brickwork * Chimney breast renovations * Structural alterations in older properties
