What does a carpenter do?

Carpentry work is generally broken down into two types: rough and finish. Rough carpentry refers to work that doesn’t have an intricate look, as it’s covered up – often by bricks, tiles or plasterwork. I am looking for a small cupboard up stairs to house some of my shoes on shelves( cupboard measurements height: 235cm, width 85cm and back wall is about 73cm). There are 2 alcoves either side of the fireplace. One alcove isn't an alcove as the dividing wall has been removed,so it will need a solid side panel, or similar. We wish to fill these spaces with a storage unit at the bottom (on each side) and shelving above. Both sides are approximately equal (give or take a centimeter or so (1930's architecture): h - 244cm, d-36cm, w-112cm. We would prefer wood, rather than MDF, cost permitting.
