Recent Carpentry reviews in Whitechapel

Unfortunately our job didn't go entirely to plan so I can't give 5 stars. Derek did however go above and beyond to try to make things right, and throughout the job he was completely clear in terms of communications, costs and turning up on time (he did overrun, but when a job doesn't go to plan that's pretty much inevitable).

What does a carpenter do?

Whether you’re planning a major renovation on your home or you simply want to make things look a bit nicer, hiring a carpenter can help you with many different tasks.

Carpentry work is generally broken down into two types: rough and finish. Rough carpentry refers to work that doesn’t have an intricate look, as it’s covered up – often by bricks, tiles or plasterwork. Finish carpentry covers the work that will be on display, so needs to have a nicer finish. Furniture, decking and window frames all fall into this second category.

Decking

Many Australian homes are blessed with a large backyard and plenty of sunny hours to enjoy that space. A decking specialist can add an outdoor deck or upgrade an existing one that opens up your outdoor space. This is great if you want to entertain guests or eat outside as a family during the sunny months.

Cabinet making

Cabinet makers are one example of finish carpentry, because of the high level of detail that goes into their end products. Unlike structural work, it’s important that a cabinet looks nice, so this type of carpenter is a lot more focussed on fine details. Cabinet makers often specialise in other forms of furniture making too.

Refinishing carpentry

While structural carpentry is concerned with jobs on the large end of the scale, trim or refinishing carpentry looks at the small end. A trim carpenter is the way to go if you want someone to fix up your skirting boards, cornicing or a similar aspect of your home.

Custom made furniture

A house isn’t a home without a few personal touches, and if you’d rather avoid the cookie-cutter Ikea approach to decorating your property, hiring a carpenter to create custom made furniture can make you stand out. Whether you want chairs, tables or a shoe rack, there’s someone nearby who can help.

Build a shelf unit from sweet chestnut panks

£400

Whitechapel, Greater London, E1

8th Sep 2021

Would like to fit a bookshelf out of a couple pieces of the sweet chestnut i have. Doesnt have to be exact measurements just roughly is fine I want it to look a bit rustic. I want it sandee and oiled. Id like it split into 3 pieces (a,b, c) I want one piece (Piece A) to just basically look nice and climb the wall but would like two slots cut out so that pieces B&C slide in ( I can then screw/ glue them together). For pieces B&C (the shelves) I would like the uneven/natural edge of the wood to be used for one side and the other cut straight so it go flush against the wall.. would also like it to have one corner chopped off and rounded so it kinda recides into the wall Same for the longest edge of Piece A, would like it to be the natural edge of a tree and the two shorter edges straight so they fit flush. *Piece A;* Height = 1400mm Depth = 100-150mm Top width 400mm Bottom width 100mm *Piece B & C* Length = 1150mm Depth 100 - 150mm Width = 210mm ,
