What does a soundproofing service include?
Soundproofing services on Airtasker include all the steps involved from testing and recommending a solution through to installing your soundproofing gear. Here are some of the most commonly requested areas for soundproofing:
Soundproofing your walls is one of the most popular ways to soundproof a room. Your technician may advise you to insulate your walls and soundproof them with foam. They’ll cut into your wall to install the foam and repair your plasterboard afterwards. Another option is to apply extra layers of drywall to your current walls, thickening the wall and making it harder for sound to travel through. You could also use vinyl as an extra layer of protection. You may also want to apply several coats of soundproofing paint or temporarily pin soundproofing blankets to your walls to block unwanted sound. Whatever options you go with, your technician will help you set everything up to soundproof your walls.
A lot of sound-waves can travel through windows, so window soundproofing services can make a huge difference when minimising noise in your home. Your technician will seal cracks in your windows using a sealant. They may also install soundproof curtains or blinds to help dull or block out further noise.
Floor and ceiling soundproofing
If your neighbours above or below you have a bit of a noise problem, it can be well worth trying a few different ways to block this out. The most common method for soundproofing ceilings and floors is to install a resilient channel, which is a thin metal structure that helps block sound-waves from travelling between sheets of drywall. They’ll remove your wall sheeting to install the resilient channel before replacing it and repairing the joints. Your technician may also recommend adding carpet or rugs to your floor to further absorb sounds.
Car soundproofing can help dull the noise of the road or engine in your car - especially in older cars. This usually involves laying sound deadening foam mats under your floor mats. But they may also recommend insulating your car doors and boot for added noise reduction. This will involve unscrewing the inside panels and installing insulation in your car doors before replacing the panels.

Soundproofing apartment door and shared wall
Brunswick East VIC 3057, Australia
30th Jun 2021
Looking to sound proof our apartment. A single door and a wall approximately 7m by 2.2m. Given the dwelling is small I’d prefer to fill the interior of the wall somehow rather than apply acoustic wallpaper etc but happy to go with whatever works. Happy to do the ceiling too if it appears the noise leaks through there. I’m looking for someone who can do the lot, I’m not very handy. I think the bottom of the skirting board might need to be sealed up too
Very friendly, knowledgable and honest. Takes the time to understand the job properly and gives good advice accordingly.

"soundproof" a room
Southport QLD, Australia
17th Jun 2021
I need someone to reduce the noise transmission from downstairs to my upstairs bedroom. This would involve putting insulation inside the walls. I am flat-sharing with others who are very noisy during the night in the kitchen mainly which is keeping me up. I am a medical student and work too so this is interfering with my ability to concentrate during the day. I am the daughter of the owner of the house who is renting out the downstairs rooms, therefore, I am not going to soundproof the whole house but I am allowed to soundproof my own room at my own expense. I want to get an idea of the cost otherwise I was thinking of installing fibreglass panels if it is way beyond my budget. The room I am living in is 6.8m x 4m, it is very large. But only one long wall intersects with the rest of the house. I generally don't receive noise from outside the house. It intersects with an upstairs lounge room/rumpus which sits above the rest of the house. The house is as follows: Building: Brick and Cladding and Weather-board and Timber Frame Floor: Concrete Slab and Timber and Chipboard Roof: Metal Roof Sheets Building Age: 45

Soundproof existing wall
Toongabbie NSW 2146, Australia
8th Jul 2021
I need someone to soundproof an existing common wall in my bedroom to reduce noise from my neighbours (talking, baby crying, stomping, dropping everything they own). The wall is double brick rendered, 3.6m long and normal ceiling height. It also has 2 power sockets on it. I can do the painting myself.
Soundproof my garage
Preston VIC, Australia
27th Jun 2021
Looking for someone to soundproof my garage to use as a recording/rehearsal space. Aiming for a room within a room type isolation for maximum sound reduction. Garage is a brick structure (5.6 x 3.3 with a 2.4 m high ceiling). It has a roller door on both ends, so aiming to build a wall inside the front door and remove the back roller door and build a wall there as a replacement. I understand there are a lot of variables involved so looking for a ballpark figure and then obviously get a more solid quote once you've inspected the space. Having done this kind of work before is essential!

Sound proofing a bedroom in a Queenslander
Toowong QLD, Australia
18th Jun 2021
I live in Toowong in a 4 bedroom house. It’s a raised Queenslander built in the mid 1900s. We have double glazed sound proofed windows installed already, VJ walls, high ceilings, and noises from our neighbors (talking at night on their decks) still seems to creep into our bedroom and I can hear it. Our floors are single layer polished timber, and our walls are poorly insulated and I’m looking for solutions to block out more noise. I don’t know what budget is needed to fix the problem but keen to spend money to solve it. Please send through options and happy to arrange a site visit with a preferred solution. Thank you
