What does a soundproofing service include?

Soundproofing services on Airtasker include all the steps involved from testing and recommending a solution through to installing your soundproofing gear. Here are some of the most commonly requested areas for soundproofing:

Wall soundproofing

Soundproofing your walls is one of the most popular ways to soundproof a room. Your technician may advise you to insulate your walls and soundproof them with foam. They’ll cut into your wall to install the foam and repair your plasterboard afterwards. Another option is to apply extra layers of drywall to your current walls, thickening the wall and making it harder for sound to travel through. You could also use vinyl as an extra layer of protection. You may also want to apply several coats of soundproofing paint or temporarily pin soundproofing blankets to your walls to block unwanted sound. Whatever options you go with, your technician will help you set everything up to soundproof your walls.

Window soundproofing

A lot of sound-waves can travel through windows, so window soundproofing services can make a huge difference when minimising noise in your home. Your technician will seal cracks in your windows using a sealant. They may also install soundproof curtains or blinds to help dull or block out further noise.

Floor and ceiling soundproofing

If your neighbours above or below you have a bit of a noise problem, it can be well worth trying a few different ways to block this out. The most common method for soundproofing ceilings and floors is to install a resilient channel, which is a thin metal structure that helps block sound-waves from travelling between sheets of drywall. They’ll remove your wall sheeting to install the resilient channel before replacing it and repairing the joints. Your technician may also recommend adding carpet or rugs to your floor to further absorb sounds.

Car soundproofing

Car soundproofing can help dull the noise of the road or engine in your car - especially in older cars. This usually involves laying sound deadening foam mats under your floor mats. But they may also recommend insulating your car doors and boot for added noise reduction. This will involve unscrewing the inside panels and installing insulation in your car doors before replacing the panels.

Acoustic engineer / consultant to assess soundproofing options

Richmond VIC, Australia

30th Jan 2024

We are looking for an experienced and qualified acoustic consultant/engineer to assess a wall we share with our neighbour and provide recommendations on how to improve the sound-reduction properties of the wall. We live in a two-story townhouse from 1978 and the shared wall is built from besser blocks with standard drywall on our side and no drywall on the neighbour's side. Sound transmission from the neighbours is quite noticeable (mainly voices from room-level conversations) - something that does not happen at all with our neighbours on the other side even though it is same type of wall. Scope of Work: * On-site Inspection: Visit the property to inspect the wall in question, including identifying any possible gaps or holes on our neighbour's side which could be sealed to reduce noise transmission. * Sound Testing: Perform necessary sound tests to determine the level of noise penetration and identify the most critical areas that require attention. I would also like to understand why the wall on the other side appears to have better soundproofing properties. * Recommendations: Provide recommendations for soundproofing improvements. This may include suggesting materials and methods to enhance the existing wall structure (e.g., the addition of acoustic insulation, acoustic sealants, installing additional layers of sound-rated drywall, or other specialized treatments). Recommendations can be DIY or professional - if professional, recommendations for a provider would be appreciated. * Budget and Service Estimates: For recommended options, provide a high-level cost estimate and time frames for project completion. We are looking for someone with a proven track record of similar residential soundproofing projects and who can offer practical, effective solutions tailored to our situation. - Due date: Flexible

Soundproof sliding balcony door

Southbank VIC, Australia

22nd Jan 2024

I need someone with glass acoustic experience to help me soundproof my sliding balcony doors. Not entirely sure how it should be done. I have already tried weather tape and it does not work. Need a professional. Fees negotiable, I'm just putting in a random amount as a placeholder. - Due date: Flexible

Internally soundproof two existing walls

Thornbury VIC 3071, Australia

19th Oct 2023

We have a two bedroom villa with both bedroom walls adjoining our neighbours, who we can hear talking and watching TV through the walls. We’d like to internally soundproof the walls and find someone who can remove existing drywall (without damaging the existing cornice), insert acoustic bats and mass loaded vinyl into wall cavity, and then attach new, thicker drywall, paint-ready. Two walls in total (one in each room)- both are roughly 3430mm wide x 2380mm high. - Due date: Flexible

Soundproofing consultation for 2 bedroom apartment

Brunswick East VIC, Australia

9th Oct 2023

I have a soundproofing opportunity and you have to advice to give, plus the skills to carry it out! I have a small 2 bedroom apartment that needs a bit of soundproofing to stop the neighbours noise getting in- and my noise getting out while I am working from home. My main concern is the front door and the bedroom door. Would love someone who knows their acoustics and is professional in their conduct. No structural changes needed, my main concern is masking the doors and things like noise absorbing panels. Hanging curtain rails and affixing to walls is ok. Price is just to get the listing up- obviously I am prepared to pay for materials and labour for a professional job. - Due date: Flexible

Carpentry - Entrance Door soundproofing

Northcote VIC, Australia

25th Jul 2023

The main entrance door to our house faces Merri Parade in Northcote; and currently, as designed; allows for a great deal of noise intrusion into the house; We’ve had an acoustic engineering team evaluate the entire home and recommended specific technical elements to be introduced to minimise the road noise intrusion. The recommendation for the main door is as follows: Main Door Recommendations 1. Add Acoustic seals to frame e.g. Raven RP10, Raven RP150 or approved equivalent. 2. Add Acoustic seal to door bottom e.g. Raven RP8Si, Raven RP38 or approved equivalent. 3. Replace existing door with a 40 mm thick solid core timber door or a 45 mm solid laminated door rated to a minimum Rw > 32 What we require: An experienced carpenter, preferably with previous experience in installing acoustic doors, to review the current door installation; provide feedback on the specification below; and provide a quote for the work. 1. Replace the existing Door Header and Jam stops - Replace door stops (x3) with Raven RP10’s 2. Add a Door Bottom Seal - Add Raven RP38 door seal, 920mm 3. Add a Door Threshold Plate - Add Raven RP28 or RP29 threshold plate. 4. Hinges - Replace hinges with ball-bearing hinges *3 5. Repair the door frame where the current lock has been installed (and possibly replace the associated trim). 6. Alignment of the existing door to the door frame so that a tight seal is formed between the header, jams, bottom seal and threshold plate. 7. The current door is 40mm so we dont see a need to replace the door at present, but we would consider laminating the interior facing side with Acoustic tiles and possibly Acoustic Plywood.
