What does a local tradesman do?

Tradesmen (and tradeswomen!) can help you tackle the tasks that need the expertise, tools, and knowledge that only a qualified local tradie can give. Whether you need a trade to help with home repairs or construction, you can find local tradesmen to help with tasks like:

Electrical & plumbing tradies

When you hire a tradie to work with electricity, gas, or water, they’ll need special qualifications, training, and equipment to keep you and your house safe from fires, flooding, and property damage. You’d need to hire an electrician to install your new light fittings or electrical equipment, like ovens. And you’d need a plumbing tradie to help with plumbing tasks, like fitting new taps and pipes, or gas plumbing tasks like installing or repairing heaters and stoves. Your tradie will start by asking questions about the issues you’re having, then they’ll do a physical inspection of the area to assess the work needed. They’ll use their specialist tools and equipment to repair, install, or replace parts to get everything working properly.

Carpentry & cabinet making tradies

Tradesmen are usually qualified professionals, so they’re ideally suited to tasks that need a higher skill level than a handyman. Carpenters and cabinet makers are in high demand for installing new cabinets, custom-making furniture and installing built-in robes and cupboards. They’ll measure your space to ensure the furniture and built-ins fit perfectly and match your existing decor. Then they’ll work with a range of equipment and tools (onsite or offsite) to cut and shape the wood, then assemble any parts to create your finished product.

Home exterior work tradies

Tradesmen can help provide a professional finish to your exterior building tasks. For example, installing or repairing balustrades. Your professional tradesmen will measure, fit and install glass, metal, or wood balustrades to make your balcony area or stairs safe while matching the design of your home. Once they’ve established a safe work zone, they’ll remove the old balustrades before installing the new parts. Another popular exterior task is installing or upgrading awnings. Your tradie can pull down old, broken, or faded awnings and help you choose a new awning to match your house and surroundings. Then they’ll carefully install the new awning so that it is safe and secure.

Concrete repairs & resurfacing tradies

When concrete is damaged, it can create trip hazards, and let in water, dirt and other pests, which can cause further damage. Concrete resurfacing can help repair damage and give your property an instant update with coloured concrete overlays and/or designs. Your tradie will first assess the damage, then repair or replace any broken areas. Then they may clean the existing area with high-pressure hoses or chemicals. Once the area is clean and prepared, they’ll mix up a thin, concrete-based surface compound that will cover the area.

Install floating timber shelves on gyprock wall

$400

Lewisham NSW 2049, Australia

5th Aug 2026

I have two Timber Line timber shelves (80cm long, approximately 28cm deep). These must be installed using the manufacturer's concealed floating bracket system. No visible L-brackets or external supports. The wall is gyprock. Installer must have experience locating studs and/or using appropriate structural fixings for floating timber shelves. Please only make an offer if you have installed this type of shelf before.

Mounzer is AMAZING!!! He arrived on time, did the job without hesitation! The timber shelves I had were very heavy and he managed to secure them into my gyprock wall ensuring they were solid. He was accurate and confident - I would highly recommend his work - immaculate job. Photos do not do justice to the precision of the installation.

Wall plastering

$2,200

Leichhardt NSW 2040, Australia

4th Aug 2026

We need an experienced plasterer to finish our hallway (pictures attached). We are looking for a layer of Bondcrete/Cemstik over the existing lime plaster, followed by two/three skim coats of lightweight plaster (gypsum/aggregate etc. Open to material suggestions that you are used to working with). The area is approx 6500x1300 x3000 height. It doesn’t require any work over the door areas and would likely only need one coat of plaster where we have retained plaster (see pictures) for consistency. Finished with sanding also required.

Wall mount two TVs on plasterboard walls

$200

Leichhardt NSW 2040, Australia

2nd Aug 2026

I have two TVs that need wall mounting on plasterboard walls and cables run internally in each wall to entertainments units. 1) LG 65 inch G6 OLED - I have the LG wall mount plate and TV bracket kit. I installed the wall plate securely but had some issues with the bracket with the supplied LG anchors pushing into the wall cavity. Needs a fresh install. There is a timber stud the middle of where the TV needs to hang. There is brick in one section of the wall approximately 40mm behind the plasterboard. In other sections just plasterboard and some conduit and other wires behind to avoid. Wall cut out required to run the cables into TV unit (power, several HDMIs) 2) Samsung 55 inch QLED - To be mounted on plasterboard wall. I have the wall mount kit. Wall cut out required to run cable into TV unit. This TV has a Samsung One Connect box so only a small wall cut out and single cable run needed. Photos attached of both TVs, walls I need them mounted on, and wall mount kits.

Wai did a great job wall mounting two TVs in my home. His communication was great and he completed the work efficiently and with high quality. Would recommend.

$200

Sydney NSW 2041, Australia

29th Jul 2026

We have had a washing machine installed upstairs (due to young kids) and need some small gyprocking done and painting. These holes are quite small. The larger hole we require a paintable access panel installed so we can access the plumbing in the event of a leak. The access panel is about 450 x 400. The 2 holes in the wardrobe one needs plaster and the one needs gyprock from a cut hole from plumber, both are small. We want all the 3 painted if required (Not sure if the access panel will fix exactly or need some gyprocking.

Mounting access points (2 on gyprock ceiling, 1 on external wall)

$300

Hurlstone Park NSW 2193, Australia

1st Mar 2026

I’ve already run all the Cat6 cables through the ceiling to the exact AP locations. I need someone to mount two Ubiquiti access points on a gyprock ceiling (approx 600g each). Proper ceiling-rated anchors or fixing into timber will be required — the included plastic plugs aren’t suitable. I also need one external Ubiquiti access point mounted on a masonry wall. The cable is already in the ceiling above that location and can drop straight down behind the unit. No cabling work required — just mounting and securing the three APs. photos show the two ceilings and one external wall

Amazing job, Fernando jumped in and sorted it out with professionalism
