I have some water damage from a roof leak that has long been repaired. Looking to get it fixed and painted. It might need a section cut out and new plaster board put in, or open to repair suggestions

Currently have a hot water system that is covered by a cupboard but not well done. Hoping to improve this by at least fixing up the plastering. In an ideal world would love to remove the cupboard it sits in and conceal it however understand this may not be possible. Open to ideas!
