Recliner chair repairs are often more complex than you’d first think. Each chair usually comes with mechanical and electronic components that can wear down over time (along with upholstery which can wear and tear). Fortunately, you may not need to purchase a new recliner just yet. Instead, work with a professional recliner repair service to restore your favourite chair to good as new in no time!
You’ll find the best handymen on Airtasker who have the skills, expertise, and tools to repair your recliner. Whether you need a lazy boy recliner repaired, rocker recliner, a massage chair, or something else repaired, you’ll find the right person for the job.
A recliner repair service could cost less than you think. Simply choose the best upholstery repairer that fits your budget.
Don’t wait for great service. You could have quotes come through today and your recline repaired within the week.
Most of the time, recliners only need one component replaced for them to work again, which is usually much more affordable than buying a new recliner.
The cable is the part that’s most prone to breakage. It can become dislodged or the handle can become damaged through daily wear and tear. Thankfully, this part can be easily fixed and replaced.
There are no required qualifications for most recliner repair tasks. However, if the repair includes electrical work, you’ll need to hire a qualified electrician.
The average cost of recliner repair on Airtasker usually costs between $77-$120. But you could pay more or less depending on the type of repairs, the number of chairs, and the total time needed to complete the job.

Reclining chair repair involves a number of different tasks, depending on the chair’s style and problems. Your handyman will assess your recliner and recommend a solution that will restore it to working order. Here are the most common repair services (aside from upholstery repair):
The cable is a wire that activates the reclining mechanism. It’s normally the first part of the recliner chair to break down or malfunction. Your handyman will first flip the recliner onto its front and release the locks that hold the back of the chair in place. Then they’ll open up the recliner and check the cable, which sits on the inside wall of the chair. This cable is put back into the correct position if it’s been dislodged. In some cases, the cable may need to be replaced entirely. If this happens, your repairer will dislodge the cable hook, separate it from the clips, and remove the screws from the handle to remove the entire cable mechanism. They’ll place new cable through the hole and screw it into place, feeding the cable wire through the same clips and putting the hook back into position.
If the reclining mechanism is damaged, your handyman may recommend replacing the mechanism. To do this, they'll first flip the recliner onto its front and release the locks that hold the back of the chair in place. Then they’ll flip the chair completely upside down and remove the bolts that hold the reclining mechanism to the rail system. This gives your handyman access to the inside of the recliner chair. Next, they’ll remove the cable and bolts that hold the reclining mechanism to the footrest before securing a new reclining mechanism.
First, your chair repairer will connect the transformer and power cord and flip the chair over to check that all the chords are connected to the motor that powers the recline. Most of the time, electric recliners stop working because a plug has become loose. If it still doesn’t work, your handyman will check all the wires and repaired them if damaged. To repair the wires, your handyman will strip them of insulation. They’ll use a soldering iron to reconnect exposed wires and protect them using a heat shrink. Alternatively, if you need your motor replaced, your handyman will disconnect the old one and reconnect a new one in its place.

If I could give Brad more than 5 stars I would. He was punctual, professional, friendly, really knew his stuff, and fixed my electric recliner for a fraction of the price I was expecting. I will definitely be using him again in the future. I can't recommend him highly enough :)

What is the type of property? House What would you like the electrician/electric recliner repairer to work on? I have an electric recliner, which works almost perfectly, except the electrics in one of the chairs, after a period of time, “locks” up and a high pitch noise can be heard and the electrics on that side no longer function. The other side of the recliner continues to work ok. This only affects one side of the chair and only after it’s been powered on for a certain amount of time - I believe it’s when it goes into standby mode or similar - it can’t get out of it. Turning the chair off and back on at the power point ALWAYS fixes it, but after a certain period of time it will become unresponsive again. Would like the electric/wiring fixed so standby mode on that side of the chair doesn’t turn it unresponsive.
