Top Floor Refinishing related questions

The cost of having hardwood floors refinished depends heavily on the coverage of the job. Refinishing the flooring of a typical 3-bedroom home would be pricey since it requires sanding, refinishing, and polishing. It would be best to ask your Tasker on rate specifics inclusive of materials estimates.

This would largely depend on the floor area that needs the treatment and the finishing you’d opt for. Some finishes dry quickly, while others may take a while, often requiring multiple coats. Some finishes may only require a simple covering too. It is best to discuss project specifics with your Tasker to manage expectations in terms of timing.

These are eight options that your Taskers might be capable of using: water-based polyurethane, oil-based polyurethane, moisture-cure urethane, wax, shellac, penetrating oil sealers, acid-cured finishes, and aluminium oxide finishes. These options vary in terms of durability, odor, amount of volatile compounds, and ideal application areas, among others. You may consult with your Tasker to get recommendations on the best options for your wood floors.

Garage floors tend to be made of concrete, and those have different finishing options. You can have your floors stained or painted, or covered with epoxy, tiles, or mats. Any of these finishing options will require a thorough restoration of the concrete floor before application to avoid premature damage. You may also discuss more options in detail with your Tasker if you’re unsure which finish to apply to your garage.

At least in the case of hardwood floors, it’s worth having them refinished since it’s more convenient overall. It costs less money, is quicker to do, and is less wasteful than a total flooring replacement. It’s a less daunting undertaking, too, if you simply want to give your hardwood floors a fresh, new look without breaking the bank. Plus, it presents an opportunity to repair potential weak points that could spread damage.

If the finish requires drying, the best time to have your floors refinished is when the indoor and outdoor temperatures are more consistent with each other. This occurs typically during the fall or spring seasons. However, this home maintenance measure is doable at any time during the year. This is also something that you can count Taskers to work around on as needed.

What do floor refinishing services include?

Be it a newly bought property or a beloved home that needs renovation, homes have flooring that will need to be refinished eventually to look new again. Fortunately, Airtasker is here to connect you to capable floor refinishers in your area! Be it wood or concrete, skilled Taskers can handle the job within your budget. You can expect flooring refinishing near you to come with the following services:

Floor inspection

The first step in any home improvement project is assessing just how much work needs to be done. Floor refinishing services include having a tradesman check the type of floor that needs treatment, the extent of the refinishing that needs to be applied and giving you options that fit your budget. Once the project details have been sorted out, your Tasker can now move on to the next step of the refinishing process.

Floor cleaning and repair

Floor refinishing is not simply about masking imperfections on surfaces. Part of refinishing is ensuring that the surface that needs treatment is in impeccable condition, whether it’s cleaning your floors or doing major repairs. This is done to ensure that the result is durable overall and that past flaws won’t cause any aesthetic or functional problems somewhere down the line.

Wood floor refinishing

Wood floors come in various finishes, and you can choose one that suits your budget and needs. From urethane and shellac to aluminium oxide, different floor finishes have multiple factors for your consideration. For instance, urethane finishes tend to be affordable but need a touchup every couple of years. There are water- and oil-based variants that differ in terms of dos and don’ts for maintenance. Aluminium oxide finishes are some of the best options you have for durability. They are said to last for up to 25 years, but they do come at a cost. Make sure to decide what finish to use for your project before booking wood floor refinishing services.

Garage floor refinishing

Garage floors tend to be made out of concrete, so floor finishes for these home areas are also different. Typically, these floors need concrete repair before refinishing to prevent premature wear and tear and unwanted blemishes. Finishes vary from coatings to coverings depending on your budget and needs.

Refinish small area hardwood floors

$300

Cheltenham VIC, Australia

28th Jan 2020

We are moving out of our rental and when we pulled up the lounge room rug, the underlay was adhered to the hardwood floors. We spent ages trying to pull it off, vacuum it up, and mop the sticky bits away. Nothing seems to help. I started to notice that the parts we did get off had also lifted the stain from the floors. We would like a quote for this area to be sanded and re-stained to match the rest of the floors. Dimensions of mat residue are 1520x2230 mm Please quote best price.
