Top Computers & IT related questions
Computer technicians can help with a range of computer-related tasks. They can do computer and printer setup, fix broken systems, install software, run tests, and upgrade complicated network environments.
You might hire a computer technician to fix a problem with your computer hardware or software. Or perhaps get help with internet and cloud services, along with cyber security services to keep your data safe.
Your mobile computer technician can work on your IT setup at your home or office. This makes diagnosing any problems much easier because everything is set up how it normally is. But more importantly, it saves you time and effort because you don’t need to travel to a workshop.
Most computer technicians will hold a degree or diploma in IT, computer science, or computer engineering. Beyond this, their qualification will depend on which area of IT they work in and the type of technologies they use.
Some computer repairs are quicker to fix than others. For example, virus removal or installing new software may take a few minutes, whereas complex repairs on parts like your hard drive or motherboard can take days or even weeks.
On Airtasker, you can expect to pay between £45 - £120 for most computer services. Your computer technician may cost more or less depending on the complexity of the task, any parts needed, and how long it’s likely to take.

What does a computer service include?
Computer & network setup
Book an IT service near you to come to your home or office and set up your personal computer, home network, or more complicated workplace IT environment. Ask your computer technician to help with hardware setup, which covers tasks like computer and Mac setup, printer help, and scanner setup. They can also work to install and upgrade software. Knowing that your Windows install or server upgrades have been carried out by an experienced computer technician ensures your systems run smoothly.
Computer repair
Got a computer problem like a slow machine or your computer not turning on? Computer repair technicians are experienced at fixing common complaints like these. Your computer technician will start by diagnosing the problem. Once they know what they’re dealing with, they’ll fix it right away or advise you on next steps, whether you need new parts, updated software, or a more intensive service off-site. Depending on the issue, your technician may be able to offer technical support over the phone or Skype so you can get your computer fixed sooner.
Computer training & troubleshooting
Confused by computers? You’re not alone. If you want to improve your Microsoft, Google, Skype, or email skills, book a computer training session. You’ll find plenty of friendly, patient and helpful computer technicians nearby. Let them know what programmes or internet skills you want to learn and they’ll walk you through the steps or troubleshoot the challenges you’re facing. Arrange a one-to-one lesson or book a small-class IT session for your friends and colleagues.
Internet & wifi help
When your internet and wifi stop working, your world can come to a standstill. Your computer technician will whip your connections into line so it’s business as usual. Internet help can range from connecting your devices and troubleshooting connection issues to improving internet speeds and wifi extender setup.Â
Cybersecurity & antivirus
Keep your computer and IT environment safe and secure from hackers and viruses. Book a computer technician to help with firewall setup and installing antivirus software. If you get hit with malware or a virus, your technician will take virus removal steps, fix any damage caused, and ensure your device is protected from future attacks.

Ethernet cabling x3 in house
£500
Ashow, Warwickshire
1st Jul 2026
CAT6 from Study in converted garage to Landing above (approx 6m run, out of study, up external wall into roof space above then through wall to landing) - Attach U7 In-Wall AP in front of the hole. CAT6 from Study to PoE doorbell (approx 2m run next to previous, will require drilling) - Attach Reolink doorbell in front of the hole. CAT6 from Lounge to loft bedroom (approx 10m run up external wall going through existing holes) Terminate in crawlspace just behind door. Sockets in lounge for existing TV and Sat cables going through wall behind TV, and 2x ethernet sockets: one for existing CAT6 to the study and one for the new run to the loft. 3x Ethernet sockets in study: one for existing CAT 6 to the lounge, and one each for the cables to the Landing and Doorbell. Ethernet socket in loft where new run terminates. Uneeded cables behind lounge TV removed. General tidy of the existing cabling low around the front of the house so they are neat and clipped flat to the wall. CAT6 used should be copper core and the connections tested. I have approx 30m of Kenable Premium External CAT6 outdoor copper cable (model no 6GO-010404) after doing the Lounge to Study run which can be used (it should be enough but can't guarantee). I also have a couple of single gang 2x ethernet sockets ready to use, but the lounge and study would be better on 2-gang units so please supply those. The loft bedroom could use one of my existing ones. In the pictures, green items are retained, red means removed and blue is new (or replacing coax with cat6).

URGENT: Fix broken Ethernet cable
£75
Oatlands, North Yorkshire
3rd Jun 2026
URGENT: Looking for a same-day visit today (Wednesday). Willing to pay a premium rate for a quick 10-minute fix to get my parents' Wi-Fi back online. NB this is a description written using Gemini's help cos I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm trying to diagnose the problem and hire someone to help from 250 miles away. 🫠They are super upset about having no WiFi so really appreciate your help. My mum has what looks from her blurry picture (attached) and description like a broken Cat6 Ethernet cable probably running through an internal wall that probably connects the main internet router to a mesh Wi-Fi node. The clear plastic RJ45 clip at the router end has completely sheared off, and the internal colored copper wires are frayed and exposed. This is causing the whole household Wi-Fi to drop out. I think you need to: - Cut off the top 2 inches of the damaged cable end. - Strip the outer jacket back cleanly. - Crimp/terminate a brand-new RJ45 male connector plug onto the wire. - Quickly plug it back into the router and ensure Deco nodes turn green. NB: If I'm wrong and this cable doesn't even go to the Decos, please just look at the setup and help my mum get the Wi-Fi back online anyway. The main goal is getting her internet working! I do know that there's internet going to the house because the (hard wired) smart TV is working. Requirements: You must bring your own standard network toolkit, including a data cable stripper, an RJ45 crimping tool, and a spare RJ45 connector plug (Cat6/Cat6a compatible). This is a very straightforward, 10-minute job for anyone with the right tools. My parents are at the property, but I am organizing and paying for this remotely via the app, so good communication via Airtasker chat is essential. Thank you!
Antony was an absolute lifesaver. I posted an urgent, same-day job to fix a damaged internet cable for my parents. Antony responded quickly, arrived on time and was a total professional. He didn't just fix the wire; he made sure the whole network was working flawlessly. My mum was absolutely singing his praises afterwards. Incredibly polite and efficient — highly recommend!
