We have an old wooden dresser with drawers (see photo 1). The original drawer runners were plastic and have broken. The width of the groove in the drawer is 10mm (see photo 4) and the width of the old runner is 8mm (see photo 5). Unfortunately the only new runners available seem to have a width of 15mm (see photo 6). I therefore want the following: Either: (A) cut the groove in the drawers wider (probably 18mm) to fit the new standard runner width, or (B) make new wooden runners to match the old plastic ones that broke. I would prefer option (B). I think it would be a simple job as it’s simply sourcing the small amounts of wood, cutting them to size, and glueing. But I don’t have my tools in London. Also, the runners would need (obviously) to be fixed into the unit so that the drawers were working again, in order to finish the job! This is a fairly simple job but a little tricky to explain, so please feel free to ask any questions. For example, it would be okay to take the old broken plastic runner away and make new wooden runners off site. When I got replacements I found that the new standard gauge is too wide.
