Wall Fixing Issue – Shelving Installation We attempted to install floating (“invisible”) shelves on a plasterboard wall, but the fixings are not secure. Problem: • The wall appears to be plasterboard fixed over brick (likely dot-and-dab construction). • There is a noticeable gap between the plasterboard and the brick wall. • Standard plastic wall plugs are not holding, likely due to: • Soft plasterboard • Lack of solid backing behind the fixing point • The shelves are intended to hold books, so they will need to support a moderate to heavy load. What we need: A secure and long-lasting fixing solution suitable for load-bearing shelves. Possible solutions (open to professional recommendation): 1. Drilling through the plasterboard and fixing directly into the brick wall using appropriate masonry fixings and longer screws. 2. Using specialist fixings designed for dot-and-dab walls (e.g. Corefix or similar systems) that bridge the gap and transfer load to the masonry. 3. Alternative mounting approach if needed (e.g. additional support brackets or reinforcement behind the plasterboard). Goal: Install three shelves securely so they can safely support books without movement or risk of failure. Please advise on the most appropriate method and carry out installation.
