What does a tradesman do?
Tradesmen (and tradeswomen!) can help you tackle the tasks that need the expertise, tools, and knowledge that only a qualified local tradie can give. Whether you're looking for a builder, craftsman, or someone with experience in skilled labour, you can find a tradie to help with tasks like:
Electrical & plumbing
When you hire tradesmen to work with electricity, gas, or water, they’ll need special qualifications, training, and equipment to keep you and your house safe from fires, flooding, and property damage. You’d need to hire an electrician to install your new light fittings or electrical equipment, like ovens. And you’d need a plumbing tradie to help with plumbing tasks, like fitting new taps and pipes, or gas plumbing tasks like installing or repairing heaters and stoves. Your tradie will start by asking questions about the issues you’re having, then they’ll do a physical inspection of the area to assess the work needed. They’ll use their specialist tools and equipment to repair, install, or replace parts to get everything working properly.
Carpentry & cabinet making
Tradesmen are usually qualified professionals, so they’re ideally suited to tasks that need a higher skill level than a handyman. Carpenters and cabinet makers are in high demand for installing new cabinets, custom-making furniture, and installing built-in robes and cupboards. They’ll measure your space to ensure the furniture and built-ins fit perfectly and match your existing decor. Then they’ll work with a range of equipment and tools (onsite or offsite) to cut and shape the wood, then assemble any parts to create your finished product.
Exteriors
Tradesmen can help provide a professional finish to your exterior building tasks. For example, installing or repairing balustrades. Your professional tradesmen will measure, fit and install glass, metal, or wood balustrades to make your balcony area or stairs safe while matching the design of your home. Once they’ve established a safe work zone, they’ll remove the old balustrades before installing the new parts. Another popular exterior task is installing or upgrading awnings. Your tradie can pull down old, broken, or faded awnings and help you choose a new awning to match your house and surroundings. Using the right tools, they’ll carefully install the new awning so that it is safe and secure.
Concrete repairs & resurfacing
When concrete is damaged, it can create trip hazards, and let in water, dirt and other pests, which can cause further damage. Concrete resurfacing can help repair damage and give your property an instant update with coloured concrete overlays and/or designs. Your tradie will first assess the damage, then repair or replace any broken areas. Then they may clean the existing area with high-pressure hoses or chemicals. Once the area is clean and prepared, they’ll mix up a thin, concrete-based surface compound that will cover the area.

Reattach one wall panel on assembled indoor sauna - quick job
£100
De Beauvoir Town, Greater London, N1
23rd Aug 2026
Need a hand reattaching a single wall panel on an Insignia MXOS1700 hybrid sauna that's already fully assembled. It's a wooden cabin-style sauna (Harvia stove plus infrared panels, 1700 x 1500mm) - everything else is built and in place, this panel is the only outstanding bit. It's really a two-person job to line the panel up and seat it properly, which is why I can't do it solo. The panels join with cam-lock fittings and there's a simple plug connector to reconnect - no electrical or wiring knowledge needed, the sauna's already wired and I'm not asking anyone to touch that side. If you've put together flat-pack furniture or a sauna before you'll have no trouble, realistically under an hour. Full assembly manual here if you want to see how it goes together: https://www.insigniashowers.com/media/manuals1/install/MXOS1700-3G-Hybrid-Instructions.pdf Photos attached showing the panel and the fixings. Flexible on timing - evenings and weekends work. That link is the official Insignia manual for the 3rd Gen hybrid - panel seating is covered in the wall panel install section.

Bath Resurfacing / Repair – Central Base I’m looking for an experienced professional to repair and resurface the central base/floor area of my bath, which has become worn/damaged. The work would involve: - Assessing the damaged area and preparing the surface. - Repairing any chips, cracks, or surface deterioration. - Resurfacing/re-enamelling the central base so it is smooth, durable and watertight. - Matching the existing bath finish as closely as possible. - Leaving the area clean and ready for normal use once fully cured. 3x DryWall Mounting & Shower Sealant repair
£130
Hackney, Greater London, E8
19th Aug 2026
I need help with a 3 mounting and 1 shower floor repair tasks . 1) Mounting a TV to the wall. I already have the TV mount and have included photos. 2) Mounting two laundry drying racks to the wall. 3) Securing an IKEA PAX wardrobe to the wall. 4) Repairing and resealing the concrete shower floor. Most of the walls appear to be drywall with studs nearby. I would appreciate advice on what fixings or materials I should have ready, or if you prefer to bring your own. For the shower, the sealant on the concrete floor has started peeling near the drain. I would like the remaining sealant to be sanded back so the surface is smooth, then a fresh coat applied. I already have the sealant and the tools for applying it, but I do not have anything suitable for sanding the old coating off. Please share your quote, estimated time required, and anything else you need from me before the job.

External render repair above flat roof – Dagenham
£400
Becontree, Greater London
14th Aug 2026
A section of external textured render along the bottom of an exterior wall has cracked, come loose and started to break away. There is a fairly long open separation along the lower edge, with some areas already missing. I am looking for an experienced renderer/external plasterer to carry out a proper localised repair, including: Check/tap the surrounding render and identify any loose or hollow areas. Remove all loose or failed render back to a sound edge. Prepare the exposed background properly. Repair the damaged lower strip and corner area. Use suitable external base/render coats and reinforcing mesh where appropriate. Match the existing textured finish as closely as reasonably possible. Ensure the wall/flat-roof junction is left properly weatherproof. Protect the existing flat-roof covering during the work. Remove all debris afterwards. I am not looking for the cracks simply to be filled with silicone/filler — I want the loose render properly removed and repaired. Access: The affected area is immediately above a flat roof and should be relatively straightforward to access, potentially by ladder/tower and working from the flat-roof area. I am hoping full scaffolding will not be necessary, but the tradesperson should assess and provide whatever safe access arrangements are appropriate. Please include any access equipment and protection of the flat roof within the quote. Please quote for labour, materials, access and waste removal all included. Location: Dagenham I would ideally like the work completed during August or September. Please only respond if you have experience with external render repairs. Photos/examples of similar previous work would be appreciated.
