What do handyman services include?

Handymen can tackle a wide range of indoor and outdoor home DIY tasks. Here are some tasks you might ask a local handyman near you to pop round and help with:

General handyman services

Got a list as long as your arm of odd jobs that need a handyman to complete? Hire general labour handymen to get several things done at once. They can help with pulling up carpet, hanging doors, fixing broken appliances, garden work, and more.

Indoor installations and repairs

A local handyman can help install newly bought homewares or fix broken possessions (so you can hopefully save some money). For example, they can help with DIY blind installation and repairs, fitting and repairing the kitchen sink, fitting pet doors, hanging shower screens, and even wallpapering. They’ll get it done using their own specialist tools and will let you know if you need to provide or pay for any additional materials.

Outdoor installations and repairs

Your outdoor area and belongings have to deal with a lot. So help them withstand whatever nature (or your family) throws at them for longer by getting them professionally installed or repaired. Find a handyman who can help with garden shed installation, BBQ repair, fitting outdoor blinds, window repairs, fixing your mower, putting up your clothesline, and even repairing your kids’ trampoline.

Bricklaying and building work

You can hire a handyman near you with bricklaying and building experience to help build garden walls, repair loose brickwork, install MDF, or even construct a chicken coop. When getting quotes from tradesmen, mention if you’ve got the building materials already, or if you’d like them to supply the materials as part of the job.

Wall hanging

From pictures and TVs to bike racks and mirrors - if you need help with wall mounting, get a DIY handyman to fit your furnishings securely and make sure they’re level. Most handymen will bring their own tools, but you may need to supply extra materials such as screws, picture wire, or mounts for heavier electrical items like TVs and driers.

Furniture repair

When booking a handyman for furniture repair, you’ll need to be specific about the furniture that needs fixing. For example, handymen with carpentry experience may better if it’s your wooden coffee table, wardrobe, or sofa bed that need repairing. Meanwhile, a handyman with electrical experience may be right for any ceiling fan or digital fitness equipment fixes. That’ll ensure you get the best handyman near you for the job, plus the right tools to get it done.

Fix and patch bottom of walls a a few other areas.

$1,000

Perth WA, Australia

14th Nov 2020

I have removed the skirting in my house and now need the bottom of the walls to be fixed and patched throughout ready to be painted over. I don’t have a big house so the job is not a huge one. Have a small section of a wall where screws were removed that will need to be fixed too. Happy to send more pictures if needed.

Alyshia did a fantastic job on patching and sanding the skirting area in my house. She was punctual and completed the job to an excellent standard. Would recommend her :)

Fix kitchen drawers

$120

Shenton Park, Western Australia, Australia

7th Nov 2020

These drawers carry heavy dinner plates and get lots of use. Runners might need adjusting or replacing or screws might need Re-seating - gluing etc. I reckon 2 hours work. Might need some parts.

Smart and efficient drawer expert.👍👍

Sprinkler maintenance

$100

Shenton Park, Western Australia, Australia

31st Oct 2020

I have a large verge (corner block) which runs off bore water. Not all the sprinklers pop up correctly. Some may need replacing, or cleaning / flushing out. There are about 10 sprinklers that need attention. There are no issues with the controller or water flow. Happy for an hourly rate.

Tomasz did a great job again. Thanks.

Drill kayak racks into brick wall

$50

Mount Hawthorn WA, Australia

29th Oct 2020

We have three sets of Sea to Summit kayak racks that need to be removed from an existing free standing structure that they were drilled into; then drilled into an external red brick wall so that we can suspend our kayaks on this wall. The wall is a tricky one to drill into (so hubby tells me) but I'm sure someone with the right gear will find it much easier than we have.

Very professional, polite and accommodating. Andre had sourced bolts ahead of the job that would be required and then when we discussed the best outcome was absolutely happy to provide advice, with a change in what I had requested. Result was even better that I had hoped! All completed very efficiently. Lovely man. Would recommend.

Hang pictures/ shelves

$60

Daglish WA, Australia

24th Nov 2020

Require someone to hang: -1x mirror -2x paintings -3x small shelves Must have own tools/ parts for the mirror and painting. Shelves come with hooks etc.

Roof batten replacement

$4,000

Wembley WA, Australia

23rd Nov 2020

My 1940s house needs all of the wood battens to be replaced (they are suffering from delignification and i am looking to sell the house). So the tiles need to be pulled up in sections, the battens lifted, and new ones (that I have) put down in their place (I also have a bunch of spare tiles recognising that some will get broken in the process). I have done a little bit so have taken a guess at how long it might take one person to complete the job. Paying cash on an hourly rate, this isn't a fixed cost contract but will be chargeable based on the number of hours taken. Re the floorplan shown, the task does not include doing the sunroom or the laundry (i am doing those as I need to add insulation as I go). So on a "flat roof" basis, I calc it to be about 110sqm. I am hoping that the capping can be left undisturbed but that may not be possible. Can be done at anytime of the coming couple of months. I am happy for it to be done during cooler periods (section by section) if you want.

Install curtain rods.

$150

I would like to help during the installation, so I will be able to show exactly how this can be done. I don't have tools. (But I have the rods of course.)

Abdu did an amazing job. He's skilled, smart, creative, and pleasant to be around. I am absolutely going to recommend him to my friends. My only concern is that he will soon become overbooked, once enough people are aware of his competence.
