Top Porcelain Tile Installation related questions

Compared to ceramic tiles, porcelain tiles are more impervious to water – that’s what makes them the ideal choice for outdoor areas like your patio. Even though ceramic and porcelain tiles are both made from clay and are sometimes indistinguishable in appearance, porcelain tends to be more expensive. For your outdoor porcelain tile installation needs, you can post on Airtasker to find skilled Taskers near you.

It can take several days, depending on the size of the surface that needs tiling. Tile installation involves planning the layout, cleaning and patching the surface, levelling it, and cutting and installing the tiles. You will also have to wait for a few days before you can use the newly tiled area. You can consult with your chosen Tasker for an estimate on how long the whole process will take.

Yes, but it isn’t always advisable. Problems may result when the concrete itself cracks or shifts – because when the concrete develops cracks, so does the tile. This is why many professional tile installers use other materials, such as uncoupling membranes or cement boards. Of course, there are also many cases where installing tile directly on concrete has gone smoothly.

Taking care of porcelain tiles doesn’t need special cleaning materials. After sweeping or vacuuming the tiles regularly, you can simply wash them using warm water, soap, and a mop. Baking soda mixed with water can be used to clean grout lines with a brush. If the porcelain tiles get stained, it’s best to wipe them off as soon as possible to avoid long-term effects.

What do porcelain tile installation services include?

Tile installation is a meticulous and detailed process, which is why it’s best to hire a professional instead of doing it yourself. While details of each service may vary, porcelain tile installers are skilled in levelling surfaces, preparing tile layouts, and installing the tiles themselves.

The whole process may also involve using tile cutters, electric mixers, and tile spacers. Sounds like a lot, right? Don’t worry because you can request for your Tasker to bring all the necessary materials! Here’s a quick guide to essential porcelain tile installation services.

Planning and layout

Before anything else, your Tasker will most likely visit you first to measure the to-be-tiled area. Planning the layout includes figuring out how many tiles are needed and what order they should be laid out. Depending on the size of the surface, your hired Tasker may also have to cut some tiles to ensure they fit perfectly.

Feel free to be as detailed as possible when making a post about your tiling needs on Airtasker. If you prefer, a Tasker can also suggest what type of tile is best for you. Porcelain tiles come in a variety of glazed, matte, and textured options.

Levelling surfaces for tile installation

The room where tiling is supposed to take place should be cleared of furniture and appliances. If your tiling needs involve having a surface re-tiled, the Tasker may have to remove the existing tiles first.

Whether it’s a concrete floor, a wall, or a kitchen counter, your Tasker will ensure that the surface is as smooth and clean as possible before tile installation. Prep work such as patching cracks and holes, filling depressions, and scrubbing the surface clean may be needed.

Installing your porcelain tiles

Once your Tasker has planned the layout and levelled the surface, they will install the tiles. This involves creating thinset, a mixture that is responsible for keeping tile attached to the surface. Your Tasker will then carefully lay the tile one by one. The next step usually involves grouting, which is done to fill in gaps between the tiles.

With the tiles installed, the Tasker will then check everything to make sure there are no cracks. They will then clean the area and pack up their equipment.

Of course, tile installation isn’t the only thing a Tasker can help you with for your home improvement needs. You can also find someone to assemble your furniture, repair cracked paving, or even renovate your bathroom.
