Top Leak Detection related questions
Costs vary when booking moisture leak detectors. This may depend on how severe the leak is. Generally, you can expect prices to fall between £550 and £1,200. Using tracer gas to detect leaks can bring your total costs even higher.
There are basic checks you can do for DIY leak detection, such as monitoring your water meter. However, working with an expert with years of proven experience helps ensure a more accurate detection.
You can trust that Taskers will always prioritise non-invasive methods, although there may be some cases when digging will be required to access the leak. Inform your Tasker if you’d like to keep disruptions at a minimum so they can come up with possible compromises.
Absolutely! Catching leaks early on prevents you from having to spend a lot on repairing structural damage. It also allows you to keep your property intact for more years to come.
This is on a case-by-case basis. If your Tasker will perform tests like tracer gas leak detection, you may have to turn off the water temporarily. Discuss this with your Tasker to get expert advice on how to prepare ahead of time.
Small leaks may seem harmless, but they can quickly escalate and cause extensive damage and even mould. If you ignore them, you may end up with more repair work than what’s initially necessary. (If this does happen to you, feel free to book a mould removal expert on Airtasker!)
It’s best to work with professionals when drying your property. You can ask your moisture leak detector if they offer this as an additional service or if they can recommend specialists who use industrial dehumidifiers and issue certificates of dryness.

What do leak detection services include?
To keep your home safe from water damage, it's crucial to work with expert moisture leak detectors for a thorough job. Some leak sources can be difficult to locate, especially when using minimally invasive procedures that enable you to preserve your home's integrity.Â
By booking a leak detection service on Airtasker, you can enjoy the following:
Site assessment
Every leak detection process begins by thoroughly assessing your property. Taskers will identify areas most likely to have a leak (a step also called prelocation) by checking for visible signs like damp walls, blistered plaster, or pooling water outside. You can also expect them to perform advanced inspections, such as monitoring the water meter for unseen leaks, provide you with further insights and help them plan the next steps.
Advanced leak detection
The goal of moisture leak detectors is to locate and repair leaks without any unnecessary damage to your property. They do this by using tools like thermal imaging, inspection cameras, ground listening devices, and acoustic sensors to quickly identify possible leak areas and confirm where the leak exactly is. If at all required, tracer gas (usually helium) can be used to track stubborn leaks.
Detailed reporting
Once the leak is detected, your hired moisture leak detector will provide a detailed report. This report includes images and recommendations on how to move forward. They will walk you through your options based on the findings — whether you'll need extensive repairs or minor fixes will suffice.Â
If the source of leaks turns out to be significant damage on your roof, fascia, or downpipe, you can work directly with a specialist to make the necessary repairs or replacements to these key parts of your home. Leaks can also be caused by a faulty hot water system. If this proves to be the case, you can book a Tasker specialising in this area.
Post-repair restoration
Following the repair, your Tasker can offer additional support such as water damage remediation and industrial drying. Feel free to inquire about these services in advance to ensure you hire an expert who can accommodate these extra steps for long-term protection.

Fix a shower hot tap that won’t fully tighten (I think the seal has gone inside?) when I tighten it fully it slips to be loose again. Attach the waste pipe from the dishwasher to the waste pipe under the sink. It just needs some sort of connector but unsure what that is. The main waste pipe from the sink is a littler narrower I think than normal. (The existing nozzle for a waste pipe in the sink trap is used by the waste / overflow from the boiler.) Photos provided.

Mixer Tap Leaking in Kitchen (Cartridge Replacement)
£115
Shacklewell, Greater London
3rd Feb 2026
Issue: Kitchen mixer tap leaking from the gap between the hot/cold handle. The water dribbles down the shaft when in use. No flooding, the tap is still usable for now, but needs dealing with. Thoughts:likely a cartridge replacement or issue with sealing. I'd rather not replace the whole tap, but you'll do a diagnosis first and we'll discuss. Hopefully, it's a short one-and-done job: There's a Screwfix and a Toolstation nearby. If after diagnosis, the right part is available, I can nip off and buy it. Or, I can purchase one from you if you carry spares... Budget is for labour if this is the kind of job we're looking at... I'll cover you for parking vouchers during your visit as needed.
Ali came, and knew exactly what to do. Thanks!
