Top Garage Roof Replacement related questions

No, you don’t have to provide any tools or equipment for your garage roof replacement. The garage roof replacement specialist you hire already has the right tools and equipment for the job. You can expect them to arrive at the site with all the equipment they need, and they have the required skills and years of experience in replacing garage roofs.

The time it takes to do this service depends on the complexity of the job, the size and type of roof and the weather conditions. In ideal weather, a simple flat garage roof can take 2 to 3 days, an asphalt shingle roof 1 to 2 days, and steel sheets 3 to 4 days. Ask your specialist for a better estimate of how long the service can take.

Yes. If you offer garage roof replacement services but find yourself short-staffed, you can book a Tasker to fill in. The key is to make a post on our platform with all the essential details. Describe the job and the sort of skills and experience you want your Tasker to have. The most suitable Taskers will reply with a free quote, and you can negotiate from there.

Consider having it replaced if your garage is old and worn. You should definitely consider this if it was constructed anytime before the 1970s. Older garage roofs are likely to have asbestos in their shingles, insulation or other parts. Asbestos is banned as a construction material because it is hazardous to your health. Prolonged exposure can lead to asbestosis, lung cancer or mesothelioma. Before deciding on replacing your garage roof, consult a licensed expert in detecting and removing asbestos first.

Yes, it’s possible to do this. If your expert inspects the shingles and deems them strong enough to be reused, then yes. Most shingles can last for decades, so this can be an effective cost-saving measure. It’s also environment-friendly to reuse your old garage roof’s shingles. You can reuse the shingles once your expert has determined their durability and that the shingles don’t have asbestos in them.

In most cases, a licence is required. However, if the amount of asbestos only covers an area measuring 10 square metres or less and is not powder-like in form, anyone without a licence can remove the asbestos. The asbestos must also be bonded to other material. Anyone removing asbestos must use the appropriate PPE. This includes wearing hooded airtight disposable coveralls, full-face respirator with eye protection, and non-laced safety shoes with disposable slipper coverings.

What do garage roof replacement services include?

Garage roof replacement services include all the tasks necessary to fit a new roof on your garage and provide ample protection to whatever you store in it. Whether it’s a flat roof or another type of garage roof, the new roof should protect your car, motorcycle, bicycle, tools or anything else you can fit into it from the elements for years to come.

This service can include a thorough inspection, reinforcing or replacing worn rafters, replacing decks, shingles and other roof structures.

Inspecting the garage roof

Your hired garage roof replacement specialist begins the service with a thorough visual inspection of the existing roof. If you are unsure if the old roof has asbestos, it is recommended that you hire a licenced expert for detecting and removing this material. After the asbestos is removed, your tradesman can proceed with taking measurements and assessing the durability of all existing roof support structures.

They can recommend whether the deck, rafters or other underlying support needs partial repairs or replacement. Some garage roof replacement specialists may include replacing or reinforcing underlying roof structures as part of the service. Clarify this with your tradesperson, as you may have to hire a carpenter to do this.

Removing the old garage roof

After any asbestos has been removed, whether by a licenced expert or by your specialist if it’s 10 square metres’ worth or less, your garage roof replacement specialist proceeds with the removal of the old roof. They can remove shingles, roof felt, asphalt and other roofing materials.

They can dispose of the old roof by tossing it into the neighbourhood skip. Some tradies may offer to cart away the old roof, but this can cost extra. Consider hiring a separate service like removals to take out renovation waste.

Installing the replacement garage roof

Once the old roof is removed, and the underlying support structure is deemed sound or reinforced, your tradie installs the new roof. They reinforce the new roof with the appropriate tools and techniques, and in accordance with state regulations, building codes and industry best practices.

Finalizing the roof replacement

Some types of roofs require curing time for adhesives. Your hired tradie makes sure to allow any adhesives to dry and cure and apply additional layers as necessary. They can also install other roof components like flashing. After all, the main parts of the replacement roof are installed, your tradesman can inspect the roof for any flaws like excess felt.

They can trim off excess material and ensure all the roof components fit perfectly and provide a watertight seal. Now that the new garage roof is installed, why not hire someone to paint the new roof, then ensure the wiring is installed to accommodate new lighting fixtures?
