What do garden maintenance workers do?

A garden maintenance contract can be negotiated on a regular or one-off basis and can be customised to include the exact gardening services you need when you need them.

Common tasks requested on Airtasker include lawn mowing and restoration, tree pruning, hedge trimming, weeding, irrigation and other services to help your front and back gardens flourish.

Some of the most in-demand garden maintenance activities are:

Lawn mowing and edging

Different types of grass turf have different maintenance requirements at different times of the year, and this will affect how often lawn mowing is recommended for you – weekly, fortnightly or monthly. If you have a large garden, a ride-on lawnmower will get the job done faster than a walk-behind mower. Garden maintenance professionals will also include a perimeter cut for a neat finish.

Pruning and hedge trimming

Trees, bushes and hedges around your garden don't need to be trimmed as often as a lawn does, but pruning and hedge trimming are recommended every 6 to 12 months to improve the look of your property. Pruning fruit trees every year will also encourage them to grow more fruit.

Weed control

Without regular maintenance, weeds can overrun your lawn and deprive your plants of vital nutrients. This can be especially damaging for flower beds and vegetable patches. Weeding services combine hand pulling with eco-friendly herbicides to remove and destroy weeds and prevent them from invading again.

Mulching

Mulching has many benefits for a garden. Adding organic material to your soil helps it to retain moisture for longer without the need for additional watering, makes the soil more fertile for growing plants and vegetables and prevents weeds from growing. Mulching is recommended once or twice per year.

Garden Maintenance

£20

The Hale, Greater London

5th Jun 2021

Lawn mowed every 2-3 weeks, bedding needs to have new felt put in around the border of the garden as well as a corner in the front of the house with current stones/gravel and new for top up, weeding both around the hedges and when felt is removed, pruning of trees and hedges. This is a big job and I want someone who will throughly get rid of the weeds, some of which is also coming from our neighbour’s house onto our side of the garden. I would also like to plant additional flowers as the side and back of the garden is bare. This I can buy myself. Once this is all cleared then maintaining it will be easy. Reasonable prices for both the above: clearing with new felt and maintenance. Thank you

Monthly garden maintenance

£40

Mill Hill, Greater London, NW7

On behalf of myself, and three other flats in my block (based in Mill Hill), I am enquiring about a gardener. We have a small lawn area in front of the flats, with some hedges and bushes, along with a very small grassed area at the back of the property where the garages are located. As it’s a small area, we are looking for monthly visits. We have had a gardener visit monthly for the last few months, so the garden is already well maintained. He is now moving away so we are looking for a regular gardener to replace him.

We have a small lawn area in front of the flats, with some hedges and bushes, along with a very small grassed area at the back of the flats where the garages are located. We recently had a one-off substantial clearance of the garden, as it hadn't been tended to in a while and was rather overgrown. It's now at a reasonable standard, and we would like a regular gardener to maintain this. As it's a small area, we are looking for a gardener to visit around every 3-4 weeks. Would this be something you are able to do? If so- what would be the cost?

Imi was reliable, hard working and friendly. We’re very happy with the job he has completed, and will continue to use his services on a regular basis.
