What does a local tradesman do?
Tradesmen (and tradeswomen!) can help you tackle the tasks that need the expertise, tools, and knowledge that only a qualified local tradie can give. Whether you need a trade to help with home repairs or construction, you can find local tradesmen to help with tasks like:
Electrical & plumbing tradies
When you hire a tradie to work with electricity, gas, or water, they’ll need special qualifications, training, and equipment to keep you and your house safe from fires, flooding, and property damage. You’d need to hire an electrician to install your new light fittings or electrical equipment, like ovens. And you’d need a plumbing tradie to help with plumbing tasks, like fitting new taps and pipes, or gas plumbing tasks like installing or repairing heaters and stoves. Your tradie will start by asking questions about the issues you’re having, then they’ll do a physical inspection of the area to assess the work needed. They’ll use their specialist tools and equipment to repair, install, or replace parts to get everything working properly.
Carpentry & cabinet making tradies
Tradesmen are usually qualified professionals, so they’re ideally suited to tasks that need a higher skill level than a handyman. Carpenters and cabinet makers are in high demand for installing new cabinets, custom-making furniture and installing built-in robes and cupboards. They’ll measure your space to ensure the furniture and built-ins fit perfectly and match your existing decor. Then they’ll work with a range of equipment and tools (onsite or offsite) to cut and shape the wood, then assemble any parts to create your finished product.
Home exterior work tradies
Tradesmen can help provide a professional finish to your exterior building tasks. For example, installing or repairing balustrades. Your professional tradesmen will measure, fit and install glass, metal, or wood balustrades to make your balcony area or stairs safe while matching the design of your home. Once they’ve established a safe work zone, they’ll remove the old balustrades before installing the new parts. Another popular exterior task is installing or upgrading awnings. Your tradie can pull down old, broken, or faded awnings and help you choose a new awning to match your house and surroundings. Then they’ll carefully install the new awning so that it is safe and secure.
Concrete repairs & resurfacing tradies
When concrete is damaged, it can create trip hazards, and let in water, dirt and other pests, which can cause further damage. Concrete resurfacing can help repair damage and give your property an instant update with coloured concrete overlays and/or designs. Your tradie will first assess the damage, then repair or replace any broken areas. Then they may clean the existing area with high-pressure hoses or chemicals. Once the area is clean and prepared, they’ll mix up a thin, concrete-based surface compound that will cover the area.

Render exterior walls
$800
Kingsley WA 6026, Australia
11th Jan 2026
I have attempted to render 3 exterior walls of my house. One of them has been rendered by a professional but he didn't quite finish (wall 3) and the other two are patchy and incomplete. The render is rough and not done properly. I require someone to finish the render on wall 3 and re-do the render on walls 1 and 2 so they have a smooth finish. Additionally, the garage requires patching before it can be painted. I'm looking to have it done by end of Jan if possible.

Install Gym Stall Bars (secure into studs, not plasterboard)
$150
North Beach WA, Australia
16th Aug 2025
I need a set of wooden gymnastics stall bars (already assembled, approx. 2.3m tall) securely installed against a plasterboard wall in my timber-frame house. ⚠️ Important: The stall bars need to be fixed into wall studs (not just plasterboard) so they are strong enough to safely take full bodyweight, including hanging and inverted exercises. Wall is standard plasterboard with timber studs behind. Stud finder and correct fixings will be needed (coach screws/bolts into studs, or battens if studs don’t align with brackets). I need this mounted rock solid and safe for load-bearing use. The unit already has metal brackets top and bottom for fixing into the wall. Please bring your own tools and appropriate heavy-duty fixings. Skills required: Carpentry / handyman experience Confident with stud walls and load-bearing installations Extra Info: Location: North Beach Flexible with day/time. Should be a quick job for someone experienced (likely under 1 hour).
Very punctual, reliable, great communication. Did a thorough job with installing my exercise bars. Would recommend
