What does a computer repair service include?
Computers are complicated devices, so there’s quite a lot that can go wrong with them. The exact process and what you can expect from your computer repair technician will depend on your problem and the fixes they recommend. Here are some common types of computer repair services and inclusions:Â
General troubleshooting and support
When you don’t have the time, knowledge, or patience to work out what’s wrong with your device, it makes sense to hire a computer repair service near you. Computer troubleshooting and technical support are usually the first step to fixing any problems you’re having. Your technician will ask a few questions over the phone or on your task to assess the complexity of your issue. Then they’ll visit your home or office or provide virtual support to confirm the issue and recommend a suitable solution.Â
Upgrades and setup
A large number of computer problems are caused by outdated software. When your operating system updates, sometimes it can cause compatibility issues if your other programs don’t update at the same time. Fortunately, this is often an easy fix for an experienced computer technician. They’ll run a check to make sure your software and drivers are up to date, then they’ll download and install any software, computer upgrades, or even a new Windows installation if needed. With up-to-date programs and operating systems, everything should be compatible, run smoothly, and minimise your vulnerability to security threats.
Hardware repairs
Eventually, most computers end up with some kind of hardware failure, whether it’s the graphics driver, a dead battery, or even just a few keys coming loose on your laptop. Arrange computer repair near you to make it easy to drop your computer in, or get a mobile repair technician to your home. A computer hardware specialist will diagnose issues like why your computer isn’t turning on, video display issues, and battery problems. They may run software tests or open up your laptop or computer case to take a look inside. They might also swap spare hardware parts with your existing parts to confirm which parts are causing your problem. Most technicians will be able to diagnose your problem within a few minutes, but it may take a few days or weeks to repair, depending on the complexity or your hardware repair, and whether or not the parts are available locally.Â
Antivirus and backup
As part of your repair services, your technician may set up antivirus and repair software, especially if they need to restore your files or get rid of malware on your computer. They’ll help backup computer files with cloud software like Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive, or use an external hard drive. And they’ll likely run virus removal software to check for threats and protect your computer against future viruses. Be prepared to purchase extra software or hardware to sort out your antivirus protection and backups. These are important to minimise the risk of future problems and protect your important files, photos, work, and personal details.

URGENT: Fix broken Ethernet cable
£75
Oatlands, North Yorkshire
3rd Jun 2026
URGENT: Looking for a same-day visit today (Wednesday). Willing to pay a premium rate for a quick 10-minute fix to get my parents' Wi-Fi back online. NB this is a description written using Gemini's help cos I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm trying to diagnose the problem and hire someone to help from 250 miles away. 🫠They are super upset about having no WiFi so really appreciate your help. My mum has what looks from her blurry picture (attached) and description like a broken Cat6 Ethernet cable probably running through an internal wall that probably connects the main internet router to a mesh Wi-Fi node. The clear plastic RJ45 clip at the router end has completely sheared off, and the internal colored copper wires are frayed and exposed. This is causing the whole household Wi-Fi to drop out. I think you need to: - Cut off the top 2 inches of the damaged cable end. - Strip the outer jacket back cleanly. - Crimp/terminate a brand-new RJ45 male connector plug onto the wire. - Quickly plug it back into the router and ensure Deco nodes turn green. NB: If I'm wrong and this cable doesn't even go to the Decos, please just look at the setup and help my mum get the Wi-Fi back online anyway. The main goal is getting her internet working! I do know that there's internet going to the house because the (hard wired) smart TV is working. Requirements: You must bring your own standard network toolkit, including a data cable stripper, an RJ45 crimping tool, and a spare RJ45 connector plug (Cat6/Cat6a compatible). This is a very straightforward, 10-minute job for anyone with the right tools. My parents are at the property, but I am organizing and paying for this remotely via the app, so good communication via Airtasker chat is essential. Thank you!
Antony was an absolute lifesaver. I posted an urgent, same-day job to fix a damaged internet cable for my parents. Antony responded quickly, arrived on time and was a total professional. He didn't just fix the wire; he made sure the whole network was working flawlessly. My mum was absolutely singing his praises afterwards. Incredibly polite and efficient — highly recommend!
Gaming pc fix
£200
Ramsbottom, Greater Manchester
1st Jun 2026
I have a gaming pc thats in need of a looking at. I believe my USB ports are faulty. My pc struggles to stay connected to the WiFi and will randomly drop, Ive used several different WiFi dongles as well as my Ethernet cable not working. Its about 5 years old, I wont lie its pretty dusty, ive dusted it but im scared to do too much and damage any of the parts. Its my first Gaming PC so im unsure what to do. I tried contacting the company i bought it from and they've ghosted me and now its out of warranty. On top of that for some reason it says updates are missing, ive tried to find a solution myself and even reset my pc and it still missing undate files. I got it during University and the paper work that came with it ive missed placed with moving, its packed away somewhere so I couldnt tell you what model it is or what the parts are that I may need. But if you let me know what to look for I can do. Im done a trouble shoot on it and completely reset it and all the issues remain, the ports were dodgy from the start I believe I just never brought it up because I ended up using an ethernet in the end which was fine but now it doesn't work at all and ive bought a new one. Of course if its going to coast more than buying a new pc then the is no point, im open to paying more i just might need more time till I can afford it. Its not urgent at the moment and I can get it to work its just a pain when its temperamental.

We have very bad WiFi in our flat. It is the same across all of the flats in our block. We are on PlusNet, and even though I've got an extension/dongle it still doesn't reach the office or the kitchen. We have to find a solution as we've had bad WiFi in our office and kitchen for 2 years now and tbh my wife is going mental about it! Would love if there's a specialist who can help here. Whether we need an entirely new router/dongle system?! Thank you!

After installing a new printer cartridge my Epson Workforce Pro WF-4820 has stopped functioning correctly. The print quality for the black cartridge is bad. I am also unable to change the cartridges now, when open the printer it gives me a close the scanner unit error, even when the scanner lid is closed. I think the hinge for the scanner unit is loose or the sensor maybe faulty. I have enclosed a photo of the problem and a example of poor print of a black ink document
