What does a local tradesman do?
Tradesmen (and tradeswomen!) can help you tackle the tasks that need the expertise, tools, and knowledge that only a qualified local tradie can give. Whether you need a trade to help with home repairs or construction, you can find local tradesmen to help with tasks like:
Electrical & plumbing tradies
When you hire a tradie to work with electricity, gas, or water, they’ll need special qualifications, training, and equipment to keep you and your house safe from fires, flooding, and property damage. You’d need to hire an electrician to install your new light fittings or electrical equipment, like ovens. And you’d need a plumbing tradie to help with plumbing tasks, like fitting new taps and pipes, or gas plumbing tasks like installing or repairing heaters and stoves. Your tradie will start by asking questions about the issues you’re having, then they’ll do a physical inspection of the area to assess the work needed. They’ll use their specialist tools and equipment to repair, install, or replace parts to get everything working properly.
Carpentry & cabinet making tradies
Tradesmen are usually qualified professionals, so they’re ideally suited to tasks that need a higher skill level than a handyman. Carpenters and cabinet makers are in high demand for installing new cabinets, custom-making furniture and installing built-in robes and cupboards. They’ll measure your space to ensure the furniture and built-ins fit perfectly and match your existing decor. Then they’ll work with a range of equipment and tools (onsite or offsite) to cut and shape the wood, then assemble any parts to create your finished product.
Home exterior work tradies
Tradesmen can help provide a professional finish to your exterior building tasks. For example, installing or repairing balustrades. Your professional tradesmen will measure, fit and install glass, metal, or wood balustrades to make your balcony area or stairs safe while matching the design of your home. Once they’ve established a safe work zone, they’ll remove the old balustrades before installing the new parts. Another popular exterior task is installing or upgrading awnings. Your tradie can pull down old, broken, or faded awnings and help you choose a new awning to match your house and surroundings. Then they’ll carefully install the new awning so that it is safe and secure.
Concrete repairs & resurfacing tradies
When concrete is damaged, it can create trip hazards, and let in water, dirt and other pests, which can cause further damage. Concrete resurfacing can help repair damage and give your property an instant update with coloured concrete overlays and/or designs. Your tradie will first assess the damage, then repair or replace any broken areas. Then they may clean the existing area with high-pressure hoses or chemicals. Once the area is clean and prepared, they’ll mix up a thin, concrete-based surface compound that will cover the area.

Small roof leak from ages. Roof leak is fixed now. It damaged a portion of plaster and have paint cracks in the beam. Not sure if any damage to the timber. I was planning to go through insurance initially, but the claim didin't go through. I have a scope of works from them. Please quote for paint and plaster as per the scope. I need it to be done asap. I am not sure of the costs. Just putting a random number. There are some other minor works in the house unrelated to painting. i.e. cracked bathroom cabinet and broken tile etc. If someone could do all these tasks, that would be even better
Plasterer needed to repair holes in walls/ceiling, and replace cornice
$100
Berwick VIC, Australia
12th Mar 2026
Looking for an experienced plasterer to repair several holes in the walls and ceiling, and replace some cornice in our house. There are 3 separate items: ========================================== Item 1: Patch and prepare walls for painting A 3/4 wall has been removed. Removing this has left some holes where it was attached to the room walls. "Item 1 - Left Wall" - Hole is ~90mm wide, but the damaged area is 160mm at widest point by 2180h. The two areas circled in red in the photo require filling too. If you think it is easier to simply replace the area with a bigger piece of plasterboard, the distance from the door trim to the light switch is 810mm. If possible would also like you to remove the two pieces of wall trim and replace with the single piece supplied. "Item 1 - Right Wall" - Hole is 150w by 100h, but the damaged area is 200mm at widest point by 2200h. It includes mesh tape stuck to the wall. ========================================== Item 2: Patch old halogen light fitting hole Power has been disconnected and light fitting is just sitting there to block the hole. Hole requires patching and made ready for painting. ========================================== Item 3: Replace Cornice 60mm cornice needs replacing and made ready for painting. Note in a few places the ceiling isn't flat. The doorway wall is 1775w, the smaller wall is 575w. The black hooks will be removed before you come. ========================================== Can provide more photos if anything isn't clear. Requirements: Experience with plaster repairs Use proper method (fill, tape if required, sand and smooth) Bring your own tools and materials Leave the surface ready for painting Location: Berwick Flexible with timing but would like the job done soon. Please include labour and materials in your quote. The listed budget is only a placeholder required by the platform.
