There has been a septic smell coming from the bathroom drain for the last 5-6 days. The bathroom is on the first floor of the two-story house. I found the fecal matter in the drain. The smell dramatically reduces when I pour lots of water/hot water into the drain. We moved into this house approximately 4 weeks ago, and the problem started 5-6 days ago.

Toilet cistern bolts have sheared off and stumps left in wall, need: I) cut rusty bolt heads flush to the wall II) refix cistern with new bolt holes slightly higher up the wall III) replace pipe between cistern and bowl IV) replace all seals in cistern and ensure toilet is not leaking (it was fine before might as well preemptively replace seals now) Assume this will require licenced plumber if pipe needs redoing.

Just moved into a new rental and the ensuite shower water flow/pressure is unsatisfactory. It seems most inside water connections have aggressive flow regulators installed. The pipes in my townhouse got clogged and back-flowed last night. We got an emergency plumber to unclog it and have been advised that there is a cracked pipe. The emergency plumber believes that the issue is related to the main waste pipe that runs underneath the cement in my garage towards the common property (bathrooms are upstairs, garage is downstairs). He ran a pipe camera through the pipe and identified a few cracks, which he believes have caused the blockage to build up. The suspect pipe is approximately 7 meters long, is straight and has an access point at both ends. There are 2 junctions, one from a basin that is in the garage, and one that is from the kitchen. There is also a question of whether the fall on the pipe and the adjoining pipe is adequate (water only seems to flow through when a toilet is flushed twice). However, at this point we are assuming (hoping) that re-lining the suspect pipe will be adequate. Because the pipe is under concrete we cannot provide photos of the suspect pipe (and the emergency plumber did not leave photos with us). Therefore, the required work is: - Inspect the suspect pipe and the adjoining pipes and give an opinion on whether re-lining the suspect pipe is an appropriate fix at this time - If it is agreed that re-lining the suspect pipe is appropriate, then reline the pipe We are contacting body corporate to obtain clarification for responsibility of the cost of this repair, but we are treating it as an emergency repair, because of the backflow that happened last night. In addition, we suspect that the development is under a Standard Format Plan, and if that is the case, we suspect that this could be an owner expense. We are hoping to have this fixed asap. The price estimate given is just a generic $1000 and we are flexible with prices as long as it is done properly, done well and asap.
