Ford Focus 2008 LS58 NYW - Bonnet won't open - when i put the key into the bonnet lock and turn it won't open

The grille works if I wire directly to the battery but if I wire as I think it should be from the side lights it won’t trigger on the ignition and when it does it flickers and only half illuminates, therefore, I must be connecting it incorrectly.
