What do Extractor Fan Installation services include?

Extractor fan installation services include all the activities necessary for proper fitting onto a wall or ceiling. Whether it’s to replace an extractor fan, perform a bathroom fan installation or kitchen fan installation, your installers can cut a hole onto your wall or ceiling for mounting. If none exists, they can install the fan and do the wiring.

Some installers can connect the extractor fan to a duct and connect it to a vent to expel the air outdoors. You may also request installers to do the wiring so that the fan activates whenever the bathroom or kitchen light is turned on (or have the fan wired to a separate switch).

Creating a mounting hole

If your bathroom extractor fan installation or kitchen extractor fan installation is new, for first-time fittings, installers will have to find a right spot on your wall or ceiling. They will, of course, consider where you’d like them installed, then use stud finders or similar tools to check if the spot is safe to cut into. There may be rafters, pipes or wires in the way, so installers will first check if the area is clear, then proceed to cut the right-sized hole for the extractor fan fitting.

Replacing an existing extractor fan

If your extractor fan fitting is to replace an extractor fan or replace a bathroom extractor fan, your installers first remove the old extractor fan. They can take the old fan off its mounts and detach it from its wiring, taking care not to damage the wall, ceiling or damage wiring. They proceed to install the replacement fan, following the manufacturer's instructions. Some extractor fan installers can make adjustments to the hole if the replacement fan is too large or small.

Installing the extractor fan

Once the hole on your ceiling or wall has been made or adjusted, installers proceed with placing the extractor fan. They can ensure that the fitting makes a perfect seal, so no drafts or insects enter the space and no moisture or condensation forms around the fan.

Connecting the wiring

Next, your extractor fan installers do the wiring. Your handyman can splice the installation of the new fan to the bathroom light switch or kitchen light switch. Or if you prefer, they can install a separate switch to allow independent activation of the extractor fan. This option may involve more complicated wiring work and some carpentry to make a hole in the wall for another switch.

Connecting the air duct and vent

Your handyman should be able to connect the fan to an air duct and vent to expel the air from your kitchen or bathroom out through the roof or exterior wall. To do this, they can cut out a hole on your wall or ceiling of the appropriate size, then attach the fan to the duct leading to the vent.

Extractor fan installation through window in bathroom, glass cutting and electrical wiring.Job Description (Ventilation Fan Installation Request) I’m looking for help with installing a small ventilation fan in my bathroom. The fan needs to be mounted onto a small glass window( glass is 22cm), which means a circular hole must be drilled through the glass. Therefore, the fan size should be compact and suitable for glass installation. At the moment, I haven’t purchased the fan yet. I would appreciate your recommendation for a suitable model (preferably one that fits neatly into small glass panels), or if you’re able to help purchase it directly, I’m happy to reimburse the cost. I’ve attached a photo showing the power cable location. The switch is located near the doorway, and some electrical work may be required to connect the fan to the existing power supply. Please let me know your availability and how we can proceed. Thank you!

Bathroom extractor fan install

£80

Globe Town, Greater London, E2

24th Jul 2025

Our bathroom extractor fan stopped working. We’ve bought the exact same make/model fan as a replacement. An electrician was doing some other work and said it was the fan itself that wasn’t working (not a wiring issue) but we didn’t have the replacement fan then. Looking for someone to come around and pop the new fan in. The ceiling is only about 9 feet high so probably won’t need a ladder or anything.

Thanks Mark. Appreciate your fast service fixing our fan.
