    What does a carpenter do?

Whether you’re planning a major renovation on your home or you simply want to make things look a bit nicer, hiring a carpenter can help you with many different tasks.

Carpentry work is generally broken down into two types: rough and finish. Rough carpentry refers to work that doesn’t have an intricate look, as it’s covered up – often by bricks, tiles or plaster work. Finish carpentry covers the work that will be on display, so needs to have a nicer finish. Furniture, decking and window frames all fall into this second category.

    Decking

Many Australian homes are blessed with a large backyard and plenty of sunny hours to enjoy that space. A decking specialist can add an outdoor deck or upgrade an existing one that opens up your outdoor space. This is great if you want to entertain guests or eat outside as a family during the sunny months.

    Cabinet making

Cabinet makers are one example of finish carpentry, because of the high level of detail that goes into their end products. Unlike structural work, it’s important that a cabinet looks nice, so this type of carpenter is a lot more focussed on fine details. Cabinet makers often specialise in other forms of furniture making too.

    Refinishing carpentry

While structural carpentry is concerned with jobs on the large end of the scale, trim or refinishing carpentry looks at the small end. A trim carpenter is the way to go if you want someone to fix up your skirting boards, cornicing or a similar aspect of your home.

    Custom made furniture

A house isn’t a home without a few personal touches, and if you’d rather avoid the cookie-cutter Ikea approach to decorating your property, hiring a carpenter to create  custom made furniture can make you stand out. Whether you want chairs, tables or a shoe rack, there’s someone nearby who can help.

Shed base build and assembly of plastic shed

    £200

    Chelmsford, Essex

    8th Jul 2019

Hello, I'm looking to install a plastic shed in the garden. The area that I want the shed on, is on a slight downward slope. I'm looking for following to be done: 1) To level out the area of the garden and make a base for the shed to go on top. ( I'm open to advice on the type of base to have) 2) To assemble an 8x6 plastic shed - this will be bought by me(potential shed, attached) . *Update I have a few questions and would appreciate if I could get quotes based on different scenarios: 1) concrete Vs wood? What would the price difference be? How much would it cost just to do the base? 2) How much of a difference is it going to make to the quote if I were to scale down on the size of the shed? E.g 6x5 3) How much gap/clearance is recommended around the shed?; The approx size of area shown in pictures is 9x5.7 - what size shed would be best to go for , taking into consideration any gap that need to be given,if any? Please contact me with quotes for the above. Thank you.

    Wooden Square Mast Construction

    £200

    Canvey Village, Essex

    12th Oct 2019

31 foot long, 5" by 4" approx, each side made from three 10mm planks, each cut to interleave, timber is stuck together and the joints staggered as I cant get 31 foot lengths, once the four three layer sections are glued the the whole section of the mast is also glued together to create a box section, clamps straps etc required to do this task, and a circ saw, Painting in and out is required, but I have only a few ideas how to do this, but the task is for the construction of the mast from supplied materials. Once allocated I will get timber and glue delivered to you, please advise of anything else you need, Legally I think I can transport on a roof rack, so distance is not a massive problem,

Supply and fit new sliding wardrobe doors

    £300

    Chingford Hatch, Greater London, E4

    22nd Sep 2019

Posting again as the task is now different so want to see who is up for it. Our old sliding wardrobe doors have seen better days - they are heavy, don’t sit on runners properly, and we don’t want glass as our daughter will have this room shortly. We can’t afford a whole new wardrobe so are looking for someone who can capably replace the current doors with something which isn’t made of glass and fits better. It will need new runners and new doors. There are currently 5 doors which are roughly 220cm high by 90cm wide give or take.

    Solution for our fitted wardrobes

    £500

    20th Aug 2019

Hi There Our fitted wardrobes doors are useless - heavy, noisy, and don’t sit on the runners. Having just forked out a lot to build new wardrobes in our loft room, we want a cheap option in our other bedroom. We would like someone to fit some new doors over the existing carcass using maybe Ikea doors or something similar. Any ideas? Pictures attached

Shed base build + Plastic shed assembly

    £225

    Chelmsford, Essex

    9th Jul 2019

Hello, I'm looking to install a plastic shed in the garden. The area that I want the shed on (shown in pictures), is on a slight downward slope. So I'm looking for: 1) The area of the garden to be levelled out and for a base to be made/built for the shed to go on top. I'm currently considering either concrete or paving slabs ( however, I'm open to advise ). 2) I would like an 8x5ft plastic shed ( bought by me) assembled on top of the prepared base. Please do advice if this size is too big for the area (approx 8.9x5.7 ft) shown in pictures, I assume there needs to be some clearance/space around the shed? If this is the case, I'm willing to downsize on the shed. I would like for quotes to be inclusive of materials for shed base, and labour. Thank you :)
