Whirlpool Generation 2000+ Gas hob. The ignition started to constantly click on despite not being pressed. I cut the power at the fuse box and investigated. The actual ignition element was heavily degraded. I have included pictures. I think an inspection of the whole electronics would he needed to be safe but I removed the connecting metal element inside ignition plug and turned the power back on and the ignition has stopped constantly clicking so it may just need to be replaced. I appreciate the photos the thing is filthy, I cleaned everything, and this is an old appliance and I have only recently moved in.

I burnt the laminate upstand behind our hob, so it needs replacing. Open to best solution, either replace the whole upstand or, if preferable, I can buy a slightly larger splashback and the burnt section could be cut out. If replacing the whole upstand - it will need cutting out. There are tiles stuck on top of it.
