Top Hot Water System Installation & Repair related questions
No, there’s no need to provide any tools or equipment for this service. You only need to provide the components and materials of your electric water heater or gas water heater installation. The specialist you hire already has the necessary tools and equipment, apart from the requisite skills and years of experience for doing the job. You can expect them to arrive fully-equipped and ready to install your hot water system. Â
Hot water system installations usually take one to three days. This estimate can include inspecting your home’s current hot water system or the area where you plan to install a new system. The actual time can vary, depending on the complexity of the installation. If the materials and hot water system are ready and the installation is a simple one, it shouldn’t take more than a day’s work.Â
Yes! If you offer this service yourself and have more jobs than you can handle, you can certainly book a Tasker to fill in. Just be sure to describe the job, the skill and experience level you require of your Tasker, and our platform matches you with the most suitable candidates. They’ll give you a free quote then you can coordinate from there.Â
No, we don’t recommend installing a hot water system yourself, whether it’s a new or replacement system. This requires compliance with many state rules, regulations, and building codes, and you must have a licence.Â
Apart from the permits and licences, a working knowledge about heating, temperature, ventilation, plumbing, carpentry, and electricals are essential for safe and proper installation. Instead of doing this yourself, we advise that you secure a permit first then book a licenced professional via Airtasker.Â
The right size for your hot water system depends on the number of occupants in your home and their needs. A good rule to go by is to allow 30 to 40 litres of hot water per person for a gas-operated system, and 55 to 60 litres for an electric system. You should also consider how much and how often you need hot water for washing and bathing. Consult an expert to determine the perfect size.Â
Should your electricity go out, it’s possible to still have a hot shower or enjoy a hot tub while having hot water run through your tap, but not for long. In a power outage, the hot water in your home can stay hot for another one to two hours. This can be shortened if several taps, showers, or tubs’ hot water functions are used simultaneously. This can be further shortened in freezing weather.

What do hot water system installation services include?
Hot water system installation services include all the activities necessary to put a reliable, safe hot water system in your home. This involves installing an unvented hot water system, inspecting the installation area, preparing materials, installing the cylinder or tank, then making the needed connections. After the installation, your plumber can test the system for flaws and address them as needed.
Inspecting installation area
Your water heater installation begins with a thorough inspection of the spot that will house the tank and its components. Your plumber makes sure that the floor is robust enough to support the cylinder's weight and complies with established building codes and safety rules and regulations. If the allotted space is deemed insufficient for the cylinder, your plumber can help you look for an alternative spot for the unvented cylinder service.Â
Preparing for installationÂ
Your plumber makes the necessary preparations for the hot water cylinder installation. If necessary, some plumbers may offer to make an improvised platform of sturdy materials to support the tank's weight. Otherwise, you can hire a Tasker to handle all your carpentry needs.
When appropriate, your hired plumber shuts off the power, gas, and water supply before starting the job. They can take all the necessary measurements to determine the right amount of materials, then cuts and bends wires and pipes to the appropriate lengths and widths. Your plumber may also cut holes into walls or floors as needed to allow pipes or wires to run through.
Installing the cylinder
Once the cylinder's space is ready, your plumber can proceed with the unvented hot water cylinder installation. They can place the cylinder or tank onto its designated space and position. Your plumber takes care not to damage any of the components of the vented hot water cylinder or other pipes and wires in its surroundings.
Installing components and pipes
After the cylinder is in position, your specialist proceeds with attaching the appropriate pipes, wires and components like the Temperature and Pressure Release valve, expansion vessel, immersion heater, and any other pipes and valves. As with all other stages of the unvented cylinder installation, they use appropriate materials and techniques that are compliant with state safety and building regulations and industry best practices.Â
Testing the system
Your hired plumber tests the system after completing the installation. They check that each tap and shower head provides hot water on demand and flows with consistent pressure. Should variations in temperature or pressure arise, your plumber can troubleshoot the system and do the appropriate fixes.Â
They repeat this process until the hot water system works without any issues. And now that your home has hot water running through your taps, tubs, and showers, why not ensure greater warmth and comfort in every room of your home? On Airtasker, you can also hire an insulation installer who can help you cut down on bills and achieve year-round comfort.

On my Sage Barista Express (c 3 years old), hot water and steam recently started coming out of the group head rather than the dedicated hot water tap or steam wand on the side. I have tried descaling but it has not fixed the issue. Reading up on the problem, it sounds like it may be a solenoid issue and replacing and/or cleaning and reinstalling could resolve it.
