Top Landscaping related questions
Hiring a landscaper can cost anywhere from £70 per hour up to £80 per hour, depending on their skill level and how specialised they are. Learn more about how much landscaping costs to set the right price when looking for landscapers in your area.
To get professional landscape gardening on the front and back gardens of a 600m2 property, you might pay anywhere from £100 to £1000+. This may include small garden and landscape maintenance tasks. Basic landscaping tasks like levelling (ready for turf) and garden edging are quicker to do and will cost less. But if you need something more involved and complex, like irrigation, retaining walls, or paving back gardens, the cost will be on the higher side.
Landscapers take care of one or more of the following aspects of garden work and garden maintenance: installing structural elements, garden planning and design, moving earth and rocks, creating pathways, designing irrigation, or building physical features like retaining walls and pergolas for outdoor living spaces.
Most landscapers are skilled in operating machinery and equipment needed to move earth and rocks or cut down large trees. Some landscapers are skilled in garden design, architecture, and planning, and may use special software to create their designs.
Gardening is more focused on growing plants - from planting to pruning, watering, and maintenance. Whereas, landscaping is more about the design, shape, and structure of the land.
For certain types of tasks, you may need to enquire as to what specialist licenses may be required to undertake your task as this can vary. For example, landscapers will need a waste carrier licence if they plan to remove garden waste as part of their work for clients. Please make sure that you confirm that a Tasker has the relevant landscaping licence and insurance before accepting an offer.
Top Artificial Grass Installation related questions
Laying artificial turf is a practical way to boost the appeal of your tired concrete or dull garden. You won’t have to overspend on fertilisers, mowing and cutting services, or spend hours watering them. But since they are made of synthetic materials, they can get a little hot during the peak summer day, which might irritate the children or pets. They also tend to hold foul odours, so make sure you don’t spill food or let your pet’s waste rot on it.
Not necessarily! You can always request a Tasker who can bring their installation kit. Some of the necessary tools and equipment include a spade and pick (if you need a sub-base), hammer, rake, cutting tools, and joining adhesives. For special materials and treatments, our Taskers can also visit the nearest DIY store to pick up everything before coming to you.
It depends on the size of your garden. Usually, our Taskers can get the job done within the day for smaller lawns, and about one to two days for bigger spaces. For areas larger than 100 square metres, it’s best to ask your installers directly to get a more accurate estimation. It is also worth mentioning that laying artificial grass lawn on soil or old turf may take a little longer since you will need a sub-base.
Definitely! While a synthetic lawn is easier to maintain than real grass, there are still a few minor upkeep required to ensure that it will last longer. Our artificial grass maintenance usually includes grass brushing, getting rid of fallen leaves or debris, and rinsing to remove dust and pollen. We can also help remove mild and stubborn stains from greases, food oils, or pet marks.
Of course! Most of our Taskers know their way around almost any make and model of artificial grass. But if you need someone who is particularly trained and equipped in installing synthetic lawns from specific brands such as AstroTurf, specify your request upon booking. Forget about spending hours finding them online. With Airtasker, you can easily find suitable Taskers in just a few taps.
Airtasker has a range of flexible landscapers that can help transform your old garden or outdoor space. We can level your natural lawn, especially if it is already full of weeds and dry soil, or provide your patio with a little trench digging if you want to plant new plants or trees, or install irrigation. We also have qualified Taskers who can fit lawn sprinklers if you prefer to keep your garden naturally green and fresh all the time.

What does landscaping include?
When you book a landscaper in your area, it’s important to let them know in your task exactly what work you need to be done. That way, they’ll be able to make you a fair offer and bring along the right tools for the job.Â
Not sure where to start with your landscape gardening? If you need a range of general landscaping services, grab a notepad and pen, then go for a wander outside. Make a note of anything that needs tidying up, trimming, or removing. Then make sure you include these tasks in your listing.Â
Another way to think about your landscaping is to break it down by the type of specialised skill or service you need, such as laying artificial grass, doing garden work, or planning hard landscaping projects. Here are some of the jobs you might give to your landscaper and what you can expect to happen during the process.
Planning
When you’re undertaking a BIG change, it’s important to lay the groundwork with some planning, first. A garden designer will help come up with ideas and map everything out on paper before you get started on your garden makeover. Or you might hire a landscape architect to plan a larger commercial landscaping project in your local community or public space.
Earth and rocks
Don’t break your back over your backyard landscaping - no matter how little or how much you need to do. You can hire earthmoving contractors to do your trench digging, levelling, and even your pool excavation or boring excavation. They’ll bring the all tools and equipment needed to dig and move the earth so you (literally) don’t have to get your hands dirty when doing hard landscaping.
Gardens
Planning a nice new garden bed to grow your own veggies, flowers, shady trees, or just want to reduce the amount of ground you have to mow? Get some help with your garden landscaping and garden edging to get the project off your to-do list and done sooner. That way, you can get on with the fun bit of landscaping projects - planting!
Water
Where there are plants, there’s water. Make sure your plants get water when they need it (without having to remember to hose) with a drip irrigation system or a sprinkler system installation. Or make your garden more beautiful with a garden pond or water features. Either way, getting your water systems sorted is so much quicker and easier with an extra pair of hands or a landscaper near you who knows what they’re doing when it comes to garden maintenance.
Trees
Trees are wonderful things, but sometimes, a tree’s gotta go. If you’re not experienced, you should never do chainsawing, stump grinding, wood chipping and mulching, or land clearing yourself. That’s something you should leave up to an experienced landscaper with the right equipment and background to get the job done properly and safely.Â
Building and installations
A big component of landscaping is installing things to make your space more functional and beautiful. Things like retaining walls, artificial grass installation, landscape lighting, or even garden benches to sit on can be part of your landscape garden design. It’s always best to get a landscaper to help when it involves heavy lifting or specialist equipment. They’ll help you get your installations done safely and help you start enjoying your space much sooner.

Landscape design
£500
Romford, Greater London, RM1
10th Jun 2026
The garden was landscaped approximately four years ago; however, several elements were poorly designed and constructed and now require rectification. Raised Planter The raised planter does not have adequate drainage or water outlets, causing rainwater to stagnate. This needs to be assessed and a suitable drainage solution installed. Water Feature One of the feature tiles has detached and requires repair. The water feature was not constructed with a proper reservoir/tub, resulting in water draining directly into the trough rather than recirculating. It is likely beyond economical repair and may need to be removed or redesigned. Garage Wall The large brown brick garage wall feels visually plain. We would like ideas for creating an attractive focal point, such as a built-in seating area, timber slats, decorative screening, planting, or another modern landscape feature. We would be happy to arrange a site visit or discuss the project over the phone to review the existing issues and hear your recommendations on how the space can be improved both functionally and aesthetically.

I have a lovely south facing patio garden (although pouring with rain today as per photos!) - and want to do some landscaping to make it more child friendly! 1. I'd like the back seating removed - and the white concrete borders clad in wood - with wooden seating created in and around the planting to create seating. 2. I'd like artificial grass laid (it will need sand/underlay to make it level)on the patio - size is just under 3 x 5m. 3.Also, I'd like the homemade swing set that is currently attached to the back of the flat/wall - moving and attaching to the back of the garden. 4.There is also a bit of fencing (far right) that needs fixing. 5. And finally, the deck needs a sand/reseal aprox 350cm x 500cm. Look at the images and let me know if you'd like to quote and discuss further. I can also send aprox drawings of what I'm after. Many thanks
