I am removing an old gas fire and need to make sure the gas pipe is capped off

recently had a gas hob fitted into my flat, but the connection was not done very well and there is a small leak. About 2-3 feet of the gas feed pipe needs to be replaced and then the gas connection to the actual hob refitted.
