What does a computer repair service include?

Computers are complicated devices, so there’s quite a lot that can go wrong with them. The exact process and what you can expect from your computer repair technician will depend on your problem and the fixes they recommend. Here are some common types of computer repair services and inclusions:

General troubleshooting and support

When you don’t have the time, knowledge, or patience to work out what’s wrong with your device, it makes sense to hire a computer repair service near you. Computer troubleshooting and technical support are usually the first step to fixing any problems you’re having. Your technician will ask a few questions over the phone or on your task to assess the complexity of your issue. Then they’ll visit your home or office or provide virtual support to confirm the issue and recommend a suitable solution.

Upgrades and setup

A large number of computer problems are caused by outdated software. When your operating system updates, sometimes it can cause compatibility issues if your other programs don’t update at the same time. Fortunately, this is often an easy fix for an experienced computer technician. They’ll run a check to make sure your software and drivers are up to date, then they’ll download and install any software, computer upgrades, or even a new Windows installation if needed. With up-to-date programs and operating systems, everything should be compatible, run smoothly, and minimise your vulnerability to security threats.

Hardware repairs

Eventually, most computers end up with some kind of hardware failure, whether it’s the graphics driver, a dead battery, or even just a few keys coming loose on your laptop. Arrange computer repair near you to make it easy to drop your computer in, or get a mobile repair technician to your home. A computer hardware specialist will diagnose issues like why your computer isn’t turning on, video display issues, and battery problems. They may run software tests or open up your laptop or computer case to take a look inside. They might also swap spare hardware parts with your existing parts to confirm which parts are causing your problem. Most technicians will be able to diagnose your problem within a few minutes, but it may take a few days or weeks to repair, depending on the complexity or your hardware repair, and whether or not the parts are available locally.

Antivirus and backup

As part of your repair services, your technician may set up antivirus and repair software, especially if they need to restore your files or get rid of malware on your computer. They’ll help backup computer files with cloud software like Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive, or use an external hard drive. And they’ll likely run virus removal software to check for threats and protect your computer against future viruses. Be prepared to purchase extra software or hardware to sort out your antivirus protection and backups. These are important to minimise the risk of future problems and protect your important files, photos, work, and personal details.

Flashing folder with question mark on start up

Really helpful, fast replies and quick service. My Macbook 2015 was flashing with a folder and question mark, and Keyvin was able to identify the problem quickly and resolve it. He even ensured that I had all the Microsoft Office suite installed after leaving, which is lovely. Keyvin went above and beyond, and I would happily recommend him to anyone else. Thanks so much :)

My Laptop needs to be fixed (blue screen, no BIOS)

$30

Melbourne VIC, Australia

10th Mar 2021

Hi all the techs out there! I am desperate as an international student. I had problems of blue screen occurring when I was moving my laptop from one place to another. Then I gave it to get fixed (no name needed, I already gave them 1 star!) And the guy broke my laptop. Now, it doesn't even see my BIOS. I have homework in there. If possible, first thing is to save all files. Secondly, if we can manage that, can we try to fix it please. Please give a quote starting for looking at it to assess what we can do so we can go from there. Please put your hourly rate and how many hours do we need to come to conclusion, so I can have an idea. Thanks :( The laptop model is Dell Vostro P75G I cannot risk possibly losing all the data and my computer as well. Please make an offer only you've done so many similar jobs and succeed.

I am so lucky that I found Satnam! After a data recovery company broke my computer and said they couldn't reach to my hard drive, not only Sat recovered my data he also fixed my computer! I highly recommend and I will suggest to my friend circle as well. Can't be more appreciated! Thanks for being that quick as well :)

MacBook Pro mid 2010 Unibody software repair

$150

St Kilda East VIC 3183, Australia

16th Mar 2021

MacBook is having the below issues: - Difficult to get past the apple loading screen; it stops and it goes into "kernel panic" - If it gets past the loading screen it resets on its own and it gets stuck in the same loop - Should a clean install be necessary, require that contents in the SSD are saved/backed up before its contents are wiped however prefer to just get it back to work. The MacBook had 10G RAM and a 500G SSD retrofitted about 3 years ago. It's never been water damage or been dropped. Access to a quiet working space on site will be provided.

Did everything we asked for and more! Reasonable priced and was able to provide alternative cost-effective solurions. Recommended.

Help me set up my wifi

$65

Melbourne VIC, Australia

9th Mar 2021

Hi, I am currently with Belong and have received the modem and have NBN (fttb). There is no fast way to get a technician in, so am looking for assistance here. The instructions online don't seem relevant to me. I am unable to find the DSL cable (I didn't get one with my modem), and do not have a DSL to LAN converter to connect the modem to my telephone line. Looking for someone to come with these cables and set up my wifi if possible.

Thanks for your help Nikila, you were very polite and informative.
