My old hob has been removed because it was faulty, the new has arrived and needs to be installed. It's the exact same size, and fits perfectly in the hole. So it just needs to be connected to the mains.

Milk boiled over from a pan and has got underneath the plate of the hob and has likely reached the wires that is connected to the temperature control knob.
