Laying vinyl planks in two bedrooms

Looking to replace the carpet with floorboards in the living room ONLY. Not sure what is involved in terms of preparing the floor (see photo of the part without carpet) underneath and the type of boards to use. Please suggest best offer/approach that's cost effective.
