What does a carpenter do?

Whether you’re planning a major renovation on your home or you simply want to make things look a bit nicer, hiring a carpenter can help you with many different tasks.

Carpentry work is generally broken down into two types: rough and finish. Rough carpentry refers to work that doesn’t have an intricate look, as it’s covered up – often by bricks, tiles or plaster work. Finish carpentry covers the work that will be on display, so needs to have a nicer finish. Furniture, decking and window frames all fall into this second category.

Decking

Many Australian homes are blessed with a large backyard and plenty of sunny hours to enjoy that space. A decking specialist can add an outdoor deck or upgrade an existing one that opens up your outdoor space. This is great if you want to entertain guests or eat outside as a family during the sunny months.

Cabinet making

Cabinet makers are one example of finish carpentry, because of the high level of detail that goes into their end products. Unlike structural work, it’s important that a cabinet looks nice, so this type of carpenter is a lot more focussed on fine details. Cabinet makers often specialise in other forms of furniture making too.

Refinishing carpentry

While structural carpentry is concerned with jobs on the large end of the scale, trim or refinishing carpentry looks at the small end. A trim carpenter is the way to go if you want someone to fix up your skirting boards, cornicing or a similar aspect of your home.

Custom made furniture

A house isn’t a home without a few personal touches, and if you’d rather avoid the cookie-cutter Ikea approach to decorating your property, hiring a carpenter to create custom made furniture can make you stand out. Whether you want chairs, tables or a shoe rack, there’s someone nearby who can help.

$250

QLD, Australia

Good afternoon! We are currently looking at building a patio/pool on the south elevation of our property. Can you please let me know how much it would cost us if we use your drafting services? We need to have the drawings with enough detail to go for engineering, council approval and have all the detail that trades/builders would require to complete it. Please find a rough sketch attached as well as the following notes: Please note that our property is on a terraced hill. We will be using the first tier to construct the pool/water tank/shed etc. as indicated on the sketch. The lines marked in red would be all brick work. The height of the brick work (or wall) would be 2.4 metres high. On the other hand, the Concrete Patio (exposed aggregate to be honed after) is on flat ground level of the actual building. The whole area (of 2300mm by 6400mm) would be covered by a concrete slab indicate by '////', so that the whole area of 10000mm by 23000mm would be all covered with concrete (exposed aggregate) and then honed (accept obviously for the pool). Please indicate in your drawings the slabs under the shed, Pool and Pump room etc. We would appreciate, if you could give us your estimated price for the completion of the drawings. If you have any questions please call me at any time. Kind Regards
