Top Aircon Cleaning related questions

Yes! At Airtasker, you’ll find plenty of Taskers who can clean and sanitise virtually any type of air conditioning unit from different manufacturers including Toshiba, Panasonic, Sharp, and more. Or if you prefer to work with someone specialising in a particular brand, we can help you find someone qualified in your area. Not limited to air conditioning units, you can also hire a technician to maintain other home appliances, including your fridge, washing machine, oven, etc.

If your air conditioning unit is releasing weaker air than it used to, then there might be a pressure buildup blocking the ductwork. It could be due to a cloud of dirt, dust, or any accumulated particles that you must remove as soon as possible. Other vital signs indicating that your unit already needs immediate cleaning include a burning or musty smell, unusual sounds coming out of the vent, and a sudden increase in your energy bill.

Definitely! Since most commercial air conditioning units are significantly larger than regular residential units, they also have heavy and complicated components. This means they need more extensive tools and equipment to efficiently clean the parts, particularly the inner elements like coils, motor fans, and fins. This task isn’t exactly ideal for DIY. For best results, make sure that you only connect with an expert who knows the parts and pieces of your commercial air conditioning system.

Not necessarily, since most air conditioning cleaners can bring their tools on site. If you have a few essential cleaning materials on hand, such as an air conditioning bag, brush attachment, or a fin comb, let your Tasker know that you are willing to lend it to them. We will require you, however, to prepare the air conditioning cleaning supplies like foam cleanser and coil cleaner. In case you don’t have them yet, you may ask your air conditioning cleaner to pick them up along the way.

It usually depends on the type of your air conditioning unit, brand, the available tools, and the amount of cleaning it requires. Cleaning a window-type air conditioner can take at least an hour or two. Longer hours may be needed for split systems since there are two bulky units involved. If you want a more accurate estimation, we recommend directly asking your Tasker. You may also send a few photos to them to properly assess their working time in advance.

Sure, although your air conditioning cleaner can only do as much, like sweep the dust and debris left behind after cleaning your AC, or wipe the surrounding walls. If you want someone to thoroughly clean the house, vacuum the floor, dust the furniture, or wipe down your window glass, we recommend hiring a separate cleaner for the job. You can use the Airtasker platform to find Taskers near you who can provide this service for you.

What do aircon cleaning services include?

Air conditioning cleaning services are handled by a skilled technician who knows your system from the inside out. Unlike an aircon cleaning company, they can immediately come over without the need to deal with conflicting schedules. They use the safest and most effective air conditioning cleaning processes to efficiently eradicate any harmful particles that may have been building up inside your air conditioner. If needed, they can also help remove a broken AC insulation and install a new one.

Here are some aircon cleaning services that you can book from our Airtasker platform and what to expect from each:

Window aircon cleaning

Most people assume that cleaning a window AC unit is easy, but that’s not always the case. Heavy and bulky, cleaning this type of aircon isn’t exactly straightforward. Save yourself the hassle, and let an expert take over your window air conditioning cleaning. After removing the filter and other components, they clean the unit with warm and soapy water and then brush away dust and dirt from the cooling fins using a fin comb. As for coil cleaning, a spray bottle or canister of coil cleaner is used to blow specks of dust lingering around the fan and motor. They also comb down fins and then spray a foam cleanser to remove as much grime as possible. Once done, they rinse the unit, leave it to dry, and reinstall it back into place!

In case you’ve noticed cracks and leaks around your window, make sure to have them sealed right away to maximise the benefits of your window air conditioner. You can use the Airtasker platform to find available window handymen who can do quick repairs and replacements.

Split air conditioner cleaning

If you’re still uncomfortable despite leaving your split air conditioning system on full blast, then maybe it’s already time to give it a deep clean. An air con expert usually starts working on the indoor unit, then ends with a full aircon condenser cleaning. They wash the air filters with a mild cleaning solution and blow over the cooling fins before cleaning the rounded metal coils. If needed, they may also apply an antifungal spray to protect your air conditioner from mould growth.

As for outdoor condenser units, a Tasker usually starts cleaning the condenser fins using a brush attachment. All bent fins are then straightened up to ensure that your AC runs as efficiently as possible. They may also remove the front panel and disassemble the unit to rinse the fins properly. Once completely dried, the displaced parts will be reinstalled back into place. Now, turn the switch on and enjoy healthier air from your newly cleaned AC!

Aircon steam cleaning

Aircon steam cleaning is a faster, more practical, and eco-friendly way of servicing a dirty AC unit. Instead of using any form of ozone-depleting chemicals, steam cleaners only use high-pressure steam, quickly removing dirt and debris from the clogged areas of the system. Not only does it effectively polish your AC, but it also removes unwanted odours and airborne particles, hence producing healthier air for the family.

Repairing my portable air conditioner

It shuts off after 30 mins then demands to be emptied. I empty the tank, start it again then it does it again. I've cleaned the filter, the insides etc. It worked for 4 hours after that but now back to 30 mins then empty. Ok so after a lot of trying I think I need a new float sensor fitted. I will happily pay someone to do this!

Fix broken portable AC unit

£100

Failsworth, Greater Manchester

15th Jul 2026

I have a portable AC unit that part of it has stopped working. The unit has multiple modes, and the normal "Fan" mode still works. But the actual AC cooling mode doesn't work anymore. When put into this mode the AC starts of blowing out cold air as it should, but the heat exhaust pipe at the back isn't producing anything. It used to push out warm air very powerfully where the hose attached and went out the window. We can see inside the heat exhaust pipe that the blower wheel is moving around a lot more and seems potentially loose. It makes a lot more noise then it used to and seems to bang against the side. Eventually the wheel seems to stop and then warm air comes out the front instead of the cold air. I would guess the problem is with the wheel or motor that's stopping the hot air from being funnelled out and it's causing it to overheat but I'm not really sure.

Job Title: Appliance Repair Technician Needed – Repair Homestix 9000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner (FA Error) Job Description: I'm looking for an experienced appliance or HVAC repair technician to diagnose and repair a Homestix 9000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner. Fault: The unit powers on but immediately displays Error Code "FA". The fan motor does not start. The fan blades spin freely by hand, so there is no sign of a seized motor or mechanical blockage. Checks Already Completed: The internal wiring diagram has been reviewed. This model uses a single-use compressor run capacitor only. The fan motor connects directly to the electronic control board via a wiring harness and does not use a separate fan capacitor. Repair Required: Please bring a digital multimeter to test the control board fan output, wiring harness continuity, and the fan motor (including its internal thermal fuse if applicable). Once the faulty component has been identified, I would like the unit repaired if possible. If replacement parts are required, please advise on the parts needed and provide a quotation for completing the repair. Please contact me with your experience repairing portable air conditioners, your availability, and your charges.
