I need a carpenter for prep work on my timber entry door and door frame so a new surface-mounted rim lock (Aqara U500, supplied, with template and instructions) can be fitted properly. The lock itself clips on easily; the real job here is the timber work: 1. FRAME REPAIR (main task): The old Lockwood rim lock’s keeper was mortised into the jamb, leaving a recessed cavity with old packing material (photos attached). This cavity needs to be chiselled square and patched with solid timber glued in and finished flush with the jamb, not just filled because the new lock’s keeper is surface mounted and its screws must bite into solid wood. This is an entry door, so the strike anchoring needs to be genuinely secure (long screws into the framing behind the jamb welcome). 2. DOOR HOLE: Enlarge the existing through-hole (currently ~32mm) to 50mm and drill two 12mm holes per the supplied template. The new lock needs a 40–45mm backset, so the hole position may need adjusting, if the new bore overlaps the old hole, plug and re-drill cleanly. 3. FIT & ALIGN: Mount the lock body and keeper, and make sure the door closes and locks smoothly. Door and frame faces need to be flush for this lock, so minor adjustment/trimming may be needed. No painting required (my painter is doing touch-ups separately) and no smart-home setup (I’ll handle pairing). Bring: drill, 50mm hole saw, 12mm bit, chisels, timber for patching, wood glue, screws. Photos attached of the door hole (with measurements), the frame cavity, and the old lock. Timber door on timber frame, ground floor, easy access. I have a large and very heavy sideboard made of Tasmanian Blackwood. It is solidly built with no obvious screws or nails. I want it taken apart to reclaim the wood. The work can be done in place as I’m doing a Reno so a bit of sawdust is no problem.

The van sustained damage on a recent holiday and I need help repairing it. A wood panel below the murphy bed has come out of alignment and is preventing the bed from folding down. I need someone with carpentry skills to help re-align the tongue and groove panel, and repair or sand back the damage to the wood above.

Remove 3 internal door handles and latches and replace with new. If needed fill gaps left if new parts don’t precisely match existing holes. Doors are being painted this Saturday.

Hi there, I need a local handyman to carefully remove one single piece of timber skirting board located inside my kitchen's refrigerator alcove. This is a rental property, so it is critical that the board is removed cleanly in one piece without cracking the wood or damaging the adjacent mitered corner joint and drywall, as I will need to reinstate it when I move out. What needs to be done: Score the painted edges/mitered corner joint to break the paint bond. Carefully pry the single skirting board panel off the wall inside the alcove. Pull or flatten any remaining brad nails on the wall so the surface is smooth. Leave the removed timber piece intact for me to store. Tools required: Please bring your own utility knife, pry bar/trim puller and drywall protection materials. Located in Maroubra. Flexible with time, but looking to get this sorted as soon as possible. Modify Upholstered Bed to Suit Arm’s Reach Co-Sleeper I’m looking for an experienced carpenter or cabinet maker to inspect my upholstered bed and see if it can be safely modified to work with an Arm’s Reach bedside co-sleeper. The co-sleeper’s instructions require the mattress, bed base and frame to be aligned. My current bed has a thick upholstered surround that extends beyond the mattress, preventing the co-sleeper from sitting flush against the bed. I’m hoping someone can assess whether it’s possible to: Modify the bed frame, or Build a safe support/extension, or Suggest another secure solution that allows the co-sleeper to attach correctly. Safety is my highest priority as this is for my newborn. Thanks!
