Electrical failure occurred while idling at a traffic light. All instrument cluster indicators illuminated, and the windshield wipers and A/C triggered at full speed independently. After stopping and turning off the engine, the car will not restart. The Start/Stop button shows a solid red light when pressed, and the Immobilizer/Security indicator is blinking on the dash. I have a 2008 Falcon EA-FG wagon with 300k on the clock that is not starting. Yesterday I went to start the car and it started making by metallic grinding/banging noise on my second or third time attempt and so stopped and called the RACV. The RACV guy says that it is either: a) The starter motor which can easily be replaced. b) The bendix or ring gear which is a bigger job.
