My gas stovetop (Smeg 4 burner) keeps igniting /sparking even though I’m not pressing down the knob. Flames lights if gas is let through. I have switched off of the electrical plug to stop the clicking for now. I was using 2 burners, then tried to turn on a 3rd when the continuous clicking happened.

It replaces an existing Electrolux 60cm induction cooktop. - Existing gas supply is capped off in the cabinet under the sink (from a previous gas cooktop). Photo attached. - Remove the induction cooktop and fit the gas cooktop into the existing benchtop cutout. - Connect gas, leak test and commission all burners. - The induction cooktop is hardwired, so it needs to be safely disconnected, and the gas cooktop's electronic ignition needs a 240V power point under the bench.
