I had Ryan install the ambient light to my car a Kia ev6 he did a good job . He is a hard worker the job was done but in the process of installing my car the 20V battery died so we did not get to see the finished product, after charging the battery the next day I noticed that only the driver side ambient light works , Ryan promised he will come back and finish the job and I trust He will . Top Auto Electricians related questions

Hiring an auto electrician near you will cost between $80-$120 on Airtasker, depending on the complexity of the problem. Your auto electrician will confirm their quote after they’ve performed a full diagnostic check on your car and determined the extent of the issue.

The most common sign of an auto electrical problem is a car that won’t start, followed closely by the failure of general electrics. Common auto electrical problems are split into four main areas. The charging system which includes the battery or alternator, the ignition system which could mean a fault with the starter motor, the lighting system which includes headlights, brake lights, and indicators, and finally, general electrics like central locking, windows, stereos, and air-conditioning. You may be able to avoid more complex auto electrical problems by taking action when warning lights appear on your dash.

There are many electrical components in new cars. The engine (battery, alternator, starter motor, EFI), safety programs (ABS), and general electrics (windows, doors, mirrors) are just a few. And they all may need repair or replacement over the life of the vehicle. An automotive electrician can also assist with replacement of aesthetic electrical components in the dash and console.

A mobile auto electrician can meet you at a convenient place to fix your problem quickly and easily. This is especially helpful if your car won’t start. With less overheads, their service often works out cheaper than an auto electrician in a workshop.

Automotive electricians’ job duties include diagnostics, repairs, and upgrades on auto electrical systems and other components of vehicles. These parts include batteries, alternators, starter motors, and lighting systems through to car electrics such as cruise control, windscreen wipers, power windows, and mirrors (plus everything in between).

If you’re interested in entering this field, on-the-job training can help you get the skills you need to earn an auto electrician salary. Then, you can find auto electrician jobs on Airtasker once you’re ready to take on auto electrical work.

For certain types of tasks, you may need to enquire as to what auto electrical licenses may be required to undertake your task as this can vary, but generally, a high school diploma, vocational courses, and on-the-job experience are enough. Please make sure that you confirm that a Tasker has the relevant electrical background to become an auto electrician and insurance before accepting an offer.

Auto electricians work on a wide range of vehicles, including:

  • Passenger cars (sedans, hatchbacks, SUVs)

  • Commercial vehicles (vans, utes, trucks)

  • Motorcycles

    and scooters

  • Heavy vehicles (buses, tractors, construction equipment)

  • Caravans and trailers (lighting and battery systems)

  • Boats and marine vehicles (electrical navigation and safety systems)

  • Electric and hybrid vehicles (high-voltage systems)

They can also service fleet vehicles, off-road vehicles, and cars with aftermarket modifications.

Diagnosing a car's electrical issue typically involves:

  1. Visual inspection

    – Checking for damaged wires, corroded terminals, or blown fuses.

  2. Diagnostic scanning

    – Using a scan tool to read fault codes from the car’s computer system.

  3. Battery and alternator test

    – Measuring voltage output to ensure proper charging and power supply.

  4. Continuity testing

    – Using a multimeter to check wiring circuits and connections.

  5. Component testing

    – Inspecting individual parts like the starter motor, ignition switch, or sensors for faults.

This process helps isolate the problem and determine whether repairs, replacements, or rewiring are needed.

The difference lies in their area of expertise:

  • Auto Technician (Mechanic):

Focuses on mechanical systems like engines, brakes, and suspension. They handle general vehicle servicing and repairs.

  • Auto Electrician:

Specialises in vehicle electrical systems such as the battery, alternator, central locking, lighting, sensors, and onboard computer systems. They’re essential for diagnosing complex faults and installing electronics like alarms, immobilisers, and dash cams.

If your issue involves wiring, warning lights, or electrical components, an auto electrician is the specialist you need.

What do auto electricians do?

Warning lights on your dash or flickering headlights may indicate an electrical issue, or perhaps your car just won’t start. Fortunately, many auto electricians offer a mobile service to ensure you’re not left stranded on the side of the road if something unexpected happens. So if you’ve been searching for car electrics near me or automotive electrical near me, help is just a call away.

Here are some common issues that your automobile electrician near me can help with:

Engine electrics and brakes

It’s important to act on any warning lights on your dash, especially your anti-lock braking system (ABS) to fix any issues before they become unsafe. Firstly, your electrician for cars will use a diagnostics machine to review the health of your battery, alternator, and starter motor.

A flat battery can be the cause of many electrical issues but fortunately, they’re easily replaced. However, if your battery isn’t holding charge, your automotive electrical service near me will consider whether the alternator (which charges the battery when the car is running) is working. The starter motor may be the problem if your car won’t start, and this can either be repaired or replaced. An automotive electrical near me can complete checks on fuel pumps and your electronic fuel injection (EFI) system to repair or improve your car’s engine.

Car electrics

Having trouble with car electrics such as central locking, cruise control, windscreen wipers, power windows and mirrors? Your local auto electricians will check for blown fuses or short circuits to isolate and fix the problem. So if you’re searching for car electric repair near me or car electrical services near me, you’re in good hands.

Auto electrical lighting systems

Functioning lighting systems are required for safety and legal reasons, so it’s important to have any issues fixed quickly. Lighting issues are often associated with the battery and alternator, both of which your best auto electrician near me can assess and repair.

Car security systems

Keep your vehicle safe and secure with a car alarm and immobiliser installed by a qualified auto electricians team. Alarm systems act as a deterrent to car thieves and an immobiliser that ensures the engine won’t start if entry is gained to the vehicle. Plus, installing a dash cam and reversing camera is another smart safety and security measure your electrician for cars can assist with.

Emergency roadside assistance

If you find yourself stranded with a car that won’t start, a mobile automobile electrician near me can help you get back on the road sooner. Their vehicle is fully equipped with the necessary tools to diagnose the problem, so they can repair many issues on the spot. For any complex problems, you’ll need to arrange a tow truck to take your car to a safe location for further auto electrical work.

Electrician needed

$75

Long Beach, CA 90813, USA

Jan 26th 2025

So I will say I did it myself which I guess it wasn’t the right way to do it but I cut and extended 4 wires to install my relocation kit for the ECU. It was good for a few months but now I’m having an issue with a connector and well it’s a short in a wire when I moved it while the car was on. So imma get new wires and well just needed it soldered this time. All I did was twist the wire which I think isn’t cutting it anymore. The car runs but just having a short in the wire. I will get fresh new wires and shrink wrap and I will also point out the 4 wires

Very helpful and knowledgeable
