Top Underfloor Heating Installation related questions
Underfloor heating radiates heat energy more evenly and efficiently. Without any motors involved, it discreetly reaches every corner of your space so you won't have to worry about cold flooring, especially during winter. Underfloor heating also works perfectly with almost every flooring material for any interior plan. They're also installed underneath your floor, so you won't have to deal with unsightly or bulky equipment.
Not necessarily, since your Tasker can bring their toolkit for the service. Some of the most common materials used for fitting underfloor heating include a pipe clip tacker gun, pipe decoiler, pipe reaming tools, and clamp heads. You can coordinate directly with your Tasker to know the exact list of tools and equipment needed for the installation. For specific materials, you can always direct them to pick them up from the nearest hardware store.
If you are building from scratch, it's best to pair your underfloor heating system with thermally conductive flooring materials. Doing so can efficiently transfer heat from the floor surface to the indoor space. Stones and ceramic tiles are the most popular choice, although you can also use wood laminates, laminated vinyl, or even carpets. If unsure, feel free to ask your Tasker for suggestions.
It depends on the exact services you need, plus the scope of the task. Simple fitting of electric underfloor heating in small rooms should only take at least a day or two to complete. Wet underfloor heating, on the other hand, takes longer. Some can take 2-4 days or more to complete, especially if you need help with pulling up your existing flooring to apply an after-installation screeding.
For newly installed underfloor heating, it's ideal to wait at least a week to heat your place. Since you are starting the system for the first time, it might take a little longer for the electricity to reach the coils or the boiling water to the pipes. After multiple uses, warming your place should only take two to three hours, longer during winter seasons.
With Airtasker, you can book all sorts of domestic services that can help improve your house efficiency, aesthetic, and functionality. From builders and designers to handymen and appliance repair experts, you can find them on our platform. We can also help maintain your living environment by keeping your house consistently clean and free of rubbish. What do underfloor heating installation services include?
Apart from roof and ceiling insulation, underfloor heating is another way of reducing your energy consumption and electricity bills. For a quicker installation, it's best to get someone who knows their way to almost any make and model from various underfloor heating companies. From assembly and installation, plumbing and electrical works, as well as final inspections, they can help!
Keep in mind that underfloor heating experts can only provide minor screeding. Consider hiring a flooring expert for a smoother and more secure flooring surface after the installation. If you are new to underfloor heating, here are some of the things you can expect:
Electric underfloor heating installation
Electric underfloor heating comes with an interconnected coil or electrical wires embedded into heating mats. You can install them pretty much anywhere as long as they are connected to a power source. Significantly thin and more accessible, electric underfloor heating is ideal when retrofitting existing rooms. The exact installation process depends on the recommendations of the manufacturer, but the service usually includes:
- Disassembly or lifting of existing floors (if needed)
- Cutting of mesh if they appear too loose for the existing subfloor
- Rolling out of heating mats
- Fixing them on the surface using double-sided tapes or glues (usually attached on your mesh)
- Installing of temperature sensors and connecting them to a thermostat
- Connecting your underfloor heating to the main electrical source
Wet underfloor heating installation
Wet heating systems feature a series of pipes that are commonly connected to a central boiler, although some models can work with solar panels or heat pumps. Once you've set the temperature on your thermostat, the boiler will start heating a certain amount of water and pump them throughout the pipes. The heat energy from the pipeworks will emanate across the room, from the underfloor up to the ceiling. Installing your wet underfloor heating might take longer than electric underfloor heating since it requires a bit of plumbing work. While Taskers are more familiar with fitting them for new commercial or residential builds, there are also plenty of plumbers who can install them in existing rooms. The installation process involves:
- Layout designing (if needed)
- Securing the manifold in place
- Fixing pipeworks in place
- Connecting your heating pipes to the manifold
- Screeding over the new underfloor heating systems
- Checking of flow rates
After the installation, it can be quite frustrating to deal with all the residual dirt and dust floating around the house. If you don't have the time to fix up, why not book a Tasker for a quick after builders cleaning service? With the right skills and set of cleaning equipment, you won't have to worry at all about the mess!

Wet underfloor heating system installed and flooring laid in kitchen
Pimlico, Greater London, SW1V
9th Sep 2023
I have been let down majorly by my builder who started installing an underfloor heating system in my kitchen but then has disappeared. I have lost a huge amount of money to him and I am now with a kitchen that is a shell! I need someone to come in and help me to finish off job. I need quality and honesty from whoever does it next! Elements that need to be done: the builder cleared the kitchen and has put in new concrete on the floor. It is now ready (i believe) to have a membrane put in (to stop damp) and a wet underfloor heating system installed. I then need scree and then the flooring tiles laid. I then need the walls and ceiling to be plastered and then painted. If you happen to be an electrician I also need the lighting to be finished off too (all the new wiring has been done but nothing is cut out and no fittings have been put in either). I need a quote for: the materials listed above your labour costs If you can only do one element of this job (Ie the plumbing but not the electricity or the electricity but not the other elements) just say. thanks. (current situation in photo attached! Note, the white pipes were just put in to help dry out the concrete as it was taking a while to set. They are not the underfloor heating). - Due date: Before Saturday, 30 September 2023

Qualified Plumber to test underfloor heating syste
Bushey Mead, Greater London
30th Mar 2023
I have the underfloor heating system installed on the ground floor. There are two zones, 4 pipes to be pressure tested for leaks. So I'm looking for a qualified plumber who can come at any point of the day (weekends including) who can come with pressure testing equipment and do pressure testing of 4 pipes. It's a 4 hour basic job, so I'd like to pay £100 for this. Based near Morden station.
Great job! Great quality work.
