What does a home theatre installation include?
Your home theatre can be as simple or as sophisticated as you like. Whether it’s just a big screen and surround sound speakers or a fully automated media room setup, it’s all about creating the right atmosphere to feel like you’re actually at the movies (without leaving the comfort of your own home).
Here are some of the most common home theatre services:
Projector installation
Bigger isn’t always better when choosing your home theatre screen, as it’s important to choose the best size for the space. Most projectors are mounted on the ceiling to get them out of the way and provide that real cinema experience. You can choose to have a mobile or motorised screen that can be tucked away when it isn’t in use, or even use a blank wall in your media room. Projectors are the perfect option for large spaces and more people, but you’ll need to block out natural light for optimum viewing.
TV wall mounting
You may choose a high definition tv in your home theatre for a simpler setup or due to light and space constraints. Your tv installer will mount the tv on a wall to maximise the space available in the room, plus you won’t need cabinets or shelving. They’ll usually use existing power points but will let you know if you need additional electrical work to power all components, or an extra antenna point installed. Your wall mounting installer will consider natural light sources and glare when positioning your tv and advise you on the best size for the space to get the most out of your viewing experience. Finally, they’ll conceal all the cables behind walls or conduits, so your screen is the main focus.
Speaker and sound installation
You can recreate the cinema experience by strategically placing soundbars, speakers, and amplifiers around your media room for surround sound. A central speaker that provides most of the sound will be installed first, and then additional speakers and amplifiers are placed around the room for immersive sound. Your audio-visual expert will consider room acoustics and seat positioning to make sure all viewers get an optimal sound experience; the way movies are intended.
Home theatre automation
Home theatre automation involves the seamless integration of all technology in your media room to make watching a movie as easy as possible. Integrated automation means you can control all aspects with the press of a button, including your Foxtel and Netflix access. A perfect home theatre setup means you only need one controller to operate your projector, choose your streaming or viewing option, turn off lights, and adjust the room temperature to create the right atmosphere. Your home theatre installer will demonstrate how it all works so you’ll be streaming your favourite movies in no time.

Mount heavy Epson projector to ceiling (12kg)
£80
Camden Town, Greater London, NW1
2nd Feb 2020
Hi, I have a projector (Epson tw7400) and a ceiling mount I bought. It’s big and heavy, over 12kg if you include the mount. This is in my basement. I located the what I think is the stud in the ceiling behind the drywall with magnets, but then when I drilled the screws stopped about 5cm in. I believe I hit the metal sheet that is part of the structure of the floor above. My concern is that the wood planks may be quite thin. Not sure if they will support the weight. I attach a picture from one of the other rooms where we recently had work done ... to show the structure that might be behind the drywall. Need someone with more experience of carpentry / AV installations... to advise and propose their plan for mounting. Would also like to discreetly run the cables behind the ledge out of view (power and 1xhdmi), although they will the need to drop down towards the plug by the floor Thanks
