If you’re unfamiliar with the process of door hanging, here’s what you can expect when the door fitters arrive:
Tools and supplies
When you book a door hanging appointment on Airtasker, your handyman will arrive with a complete set of tools and supplies. Tools include fasteners, connectors, drills, chisels, and others. If you haven’t picked out a door yet, some Taskers may be able to help you out with this. They can go to your location and measure the opening or the existing door that needs replacing.
They’ll visit your local hardware store or builders centre and help you pick out a door. Then, they’ll deliver it to your location and install it. Just take note that this shopping service may cost an additional fee and that not all Taskers may offer it. If you want this included by their price or quote, add it to your task post.Â
Installing different types of doors
Usually, handymen handle both internal and external door fitting. The difference is that internal door fitters often work with hollow doors that divide up the rooms in your house (hence, internal). External doors are generally stable, heavier, more expensive, and more durable since they have to protect you from the elements. Further, your front door fitting may cost more than the rehanging of your bedroom doors.
Installation may also differ based on whether you are using slab doors or pre-hung ones. Slab doors have no frames, hinges, or hardware. Pre-hung doors are usually self-contained (they only need to be fit into the doorway). As you would expect, pre-hung doors take considerably less time to install - some handymen can have them up in an hour. Slab doors, on the other hand, can take up to 8 hours to fit.
