Top Electrical Rewiring related questions
Electrical rewiring may be necessary if you have an old home or if you’re looking to do some upgrades. An older home may have unseen electrical issues you need to address. Flickering lights or slight shocks from outlets may be signs you need an electrical rewiring. Socket additions or lighting upgrades are also reasons for electrical rewiring.
Certification requirements for electricians depend on the type of electrical work. An electrician must notify the local building control department before major electrical work or work in high-risk areas. Furthermore, the electrician must be under your local government’s approved “Competent Person” schemes. As for minor work like adding sockets to existing circuits, an electrician may not need a certificate to do the job. Please check qualifications with your Tasker before hiring them for a task.
Check ratings and reviews of Taskers before accepting an offer. It’s best to find an electrician who’s done work similar to the services you need. Message Taskers via our platform for follow-up questions on how they plan on going about your task. Lastly, try to get at least three quotes from different electricians before you hire someone for major electrical work.
Expect major disruption due to electrical wiring. You may need to vacate the room to allow your electrician to work. Before your electrician arrives, plan your day ahead and keep in mind the spaces you can’t use during the appointment. Your electrician may also have to pull up floorboards and wall panels to install new cabling. Make sure to schedule any wall painting or decoration after the rewiring work.
Yes, electricians can do electrical rewiring in wet areas, such as bathrooms, kitchens, and swimming pools. However, an electrician must abide by certain restrictions when doing such electrical work. For example, your Tasker may have to position shaver sockets away from the splash area of the shower. What’s more, ventilation fans and light fittings in damp locations may need moisture and mechanical protection.
No, you should not try DIY electrical rewiring if you’re not qualified to do so. To ensure your and your family’s safety, hire a qualified electrician for electrical tasks. Poorly installed electrics could pose fire hazards and invalidate your property insurance.

What do electrical rewiring services include?
Electricians can replace cables, fittings, and distribution boards that are old or dangerous. Additionally, electrical rewiring may involve adding circuits to power a pool area or run a new appliance. An electrician or sparky can come in to check your existing connection and assess the work they need to do.
Afterwards, the specialist can perform the rewire and conduct safety tests on all the wiring. A Tasker may conduct safety tests on circuits, fuse boards, and sockets. These tests ensure electricals are running properly and are compliant with building regulations. Below is a list of different ways an electrician can help you.
Electrical rewiring for electrical issues
An electrician may need to rewire your home if you always experience overheating sockets, flickering lights, or a blown fuse. In any case, an electrician can do full or partial rewiring on your property. For example, your technician can rewire your lights to address flickering or dimming fixtures.
A major renovation, on the other hand, may need a fuse board upgrade. Taskers are here to help with minor to major electrical issues you may have. For other home repair tasks, we also help you find plumbers who can address leaking pipes, low water pressure, or other plumbing problems in your home.
Electrical rewiring for home updates
If you live in an old home that has not been rewired in 25-30 years, it’s a good idea to have an electrician check your electrical system. Chances are, you’ll need to schedule a partial or full rewiring on your house. Old rewiring from the 1980s or 90s is not designed to handle the huge volume of modern household appliances.
An electrician can ensure your wiring complies with present-day safety standards. When the work is done, you can have another Tasker take away the construction debris and vacuum up dust from the work areas.
Electrical rewiring for home upgrades
Electricians can do rewiring for small upgrades or major renovations. Small upgrades include installing additional sockets in a room, so you don’t have to use too many extensions around the house. This upgrade can prevent sockets from overheating and reduce fire risks.
If you’re converting a garage into a recreational space, you may also need electrical wiring. This upgrade enables your electrical system to carry extra loads. Other electrical services include lighting upgrades, light switch replacement, and fan installation. These offerings may vary from Tasker to Tasker. With electrical wiring updates, you may achieve a more attractive living space with a higher property value.

Rewiring and installing 2 pendant lights
$350
Clyde NSW 2142, Australia
29th Dec 2025
I need to install two small pendant lights under 5kg each, one larger, one small. Both need new wiring because the wire is old and skin is failing (approx 15m each from light to switch and to switchboard). The lights are located very close to the manhole. I’d like a noggin installed in the ceiling cavity for support. The lights are just 2 meters away from manhole. So it's easy to access. Because the house has tenant living needs electricity before 5pm, the job must start after 5pm. I estimate would be a 2 hour job it will be good if finish before 7pm.
