Why book a PVC fencing service through Airtasker?

PVC or plastic fencing is one of the more popular options for fencing, mainly because it’s low maintenance and can be made to resemble a traditional wooden fence. But if you want to make the most out of your plastic fence on a limited budget, it will help if you pick a good installer. And that’s where Airtasker comes in.

When you book a Tasker to do your plastic fence installation, you get a rated and reviewed specialist who can put up your plastic pence panels or screening on a budget. And since our platform matches you with local installers, you won’t need to look far or wait long to have your fence put up!

To start looking for a plastic fence installation service near you, tap the “Post a task” button. Fill out the details on the form, including your location, desired appointment date, budget, and the type of fencing you want (a plastic barrier, netting, or picket fence), then tap “Get quotes.” Within minutes, offers will pop up on your screen. Simply pick the Tasker you like, and you’re good to go!

Top PVC Fencing related questions

PVC is a type of vinyl, and it is the only type of vinyl used when installing plastic fences. Fencing specialists tend to favour PVC because it is generally low-maintenance, can be made to resemble wood or bamboo, and won’t splinter or rot, unlike actual wood. PVC can even be used as panels, screening, wire, or chain links, so you have many options to choose from in terms of design.

If you take good care of it, your PVC fence can last up to thirty years. Some things that may affect your plastic garden fence’s lifespan include extreme weather, algae, mould, and mildew. To prolong your plastic fencing, you can either clean it regularly or book a cleaning specialist through our platform. And while you’re at it, you may want to have your garden maintained by a nearby gardener as well.

PVC or plastic fence screening costs more than wood in terms of upfront costs, but you’ll spend less time maintaining it. Wood, while cheaper on the onset, needs frequent treatments and staining. It also won’t last as long - around half the lifespan of a plastic fence.

One other thing you might want to consider as well is the after-service life of your fence: while wood is a natural material, PVC fencing is not biodegradable.

PVC fencing is relatively low-maintenance; all it needs is some regular cleaning to get rid of mould and mildew. It doesn’t require frequent treating or staining, unlike wooden fences, and insects won’t damage it. You also have a wider range of designs to pick from - PVC can be turned into panels, chain links, or netting, and it can be made to look like natural wood. Lastly, PVC won’t rust or rot, unlike wood or metal materials.

Changes in the weather can cause fencing materials to warp, crack, or fade. If hail is a concern in your area, it can cause marks or dents in your fence. One advantage of plastic fencing is that it is resistant to several of these factors. You may want to check with your local fencing installer to find the best solution for you and your property.

Some questions you may want to ask your fencing contractor before they start the job include:

  • What types of fencing materials do you install?

  • Can I see your portfolio of completed projects?

  • Do you have a licence and insurance?

  • Who will obtain the building permits?

  • Do you offer a warranty?

  • Can you haul my old fence away?

  • Who will contact local utilities?

What do PVC fencing services include?

Booking a PVC fencing service through Airtasker means getting a specialist who’ll bring the tools needed for fence installation. Depending on your request and the Tasker you get, they may also handle building permits and talking to utility companies to mark the water and power lines. Some may also offer to purchase the materials (such as gravel and the fence panels or netting) on your behalf.

In general, these are what you can expect when you request a PVC fencing installation service through our platform:

Determining the fence location

First, you and the Tasker need to determine where to put up the fence posts. This depends on the property line, legal issues, and utility lines. Then, the Tasker marks the location of each corner post. Any additional posts will be placed so that the distance between each fence post is 2.4 meters (8 feet).

Setting up the posts

Next, the fence installer digs holes around 60.96 cm (24 inches) deep and 25.4 cm (10 inches) in diameter. They'll put gravel at the bottom of each hole, then insert the corner posts. After checking if they are level, the Tasker temporarily braces the posts with 44 x 96 cm pieces of wood attached to the post tops and the ground.

Afterwards, your Tasker runs a string line along the top edges of the corner posts, making sure that it's taut and level. This is to ensure that the rest of the posts are in line with the corner posts.

Setting up the fencing system

Next, the installer sets up the fencing system. This can be PVC panels, PVC chain links, or mesh. They'll simply follow the manufacturer's instructions and attach them to the fence posts. Once this is done, they'll mix fast-drying cement and pour them into the post holes. The pieces of wood will be left overnight while the cement cures. The following day, the fence installer removes the bracing. Finally, they'll apply PVC cement to the post caps and install them on top of the posts.

Next, the installer has you inspect the fence’s quality. Once you’re satisfied with their work, they’ll pack up their tools and be on their way. Now that you’re done with the fence, why not get a landscape architect to work on your yard or have a specialist install a home security system? You can find local experts by posting on our platform.
